Job Summary:
The staff PTA functions under the general supervision of the Director of Home Health and under the direct supervision of the PT responsible for providing physical therapy modalities and treatment procedures in patient homes as determined by a treatment plan that has been established and is in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies while maintaining the highest degree of quality patient care.
Education Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED required. An Associate's degree as a physical therapy assistant is required.
Certification/Licensure Requirements:
Mississippi state licensure as a physical therapy assistant required. Tennessee state licensure as a physical therapy assistant preferred. Current CPR certification. Legally licensed to operate a motor vehicle required.
Experience:
Two years' experience as a PTA in healthcare is required. Experience as a PTA in Home Health preferred.
Language/Communication Skills:
English required. Multilingual capabilities enhance the ability to perform this job. Must have the ability to speak effectively and professionally to all staff, management and all outside individuals at all levels from elementary to professional.
Mathematical Skills:
Skill in adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers, fractions, and decimals without a calculator. Skill in computing ratios, rates, and percentages. Knowledge of the metric system units (length, area, volume, capacity, mass and weight) and U.S. equivalents.
Reasoning Ability:
Must have the ability to apply non-judgmental reasoning capabilities whenever necessary when dealing with patients, visitors, and staff. Critical thinking and multitasking skills are a must. Must be able to apply the theory of physical therapy. Must be able to perform technical procedures. Must be able to instill confidence in patients, physicians, and personnel. Must be able to determine proper procedures and methods and evaluate results. Must be able to make decisions on their own. Must have the ability to adapt to emergency situations. Must be alert to changes in a patient's condition. Must maintain a high degree of accuracy in carrying out prescriptions, receiving & translating information, and charting & reporting.
