ABOUT THE CALIFORNIA VIRTUAL ACADEMIES

The California Virtual Academies (a network of 9 public charter schools) delivers online/virtual home based instruction to students in grades TK-12 in California. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are required to complete approximately 4-6 hours of coursework daily, complete all assignments, and attend required live instructional sessions. K12, inc. is our curriculum provider.

The SLP manages multiple systems for maintaining and documenting student records, managing materials and equipment, and providing resources to parents to support carry-over and generalization of skills. The SLP supports and collaborates with classroom teachers and support staff by providing effective interventions to support students’ communication in their learning environment. The SLP is also responsible for completing enduring connection calls to support students’ attendance and participation, as well as build rapport with families.

The SLP plays a vital role in attending Student Study Team meetings by reviewing screenings and making appropriate recommendations when students are referred for communication concerns. The SLP may also offer tier 1/tier 2 interventions within the general education setting to support communication needs.

The SLP is responsible for completing virtual speech and language assessments, though the SLP may be asked to complete in-person assessments, if needed. The SLP will complete speech and language evaluation reports and review of record reports using CAVA’s required report templates and will submit reports to be peer reviewed by colleagues.

The SLP is responsible for developing IEPs on SEIS, scheduling team meetings, and completing/sending all IEP related documents, including but not limited to Assessment Plans, Prior Written Notices, and Individualized Education Plans. With rolling enrollment, SLPs will schedule 30-Day IEPs as new students enroll throughout the school year.
