Fab Manufacturing is seeking a highly skilled Structural Steel Detailing Manager to lead the people, systems, and strategy behind our steel detailing department. This isnt just a drafting oversight roleits a chance to shape a high-performing function that directly impacts fabrication flow, quality, and project outcomes. Youll serve as both a department leader and hands-on expert, ensuring that shop-ready drawings are accurate, coordinated, and delivered with zero-defect precision.

Fab Manufacturing is a Memphis-based metals fabrication company specializing in structural and miscellaneous steel for multifamily construction. Our product scope includes steel stairs, railings, precast concrete treads, and custom-fabricated metalwork. • Lead and manage the detailing department, including people, process, and technology.

• Establish and maintain standards, workflows, and software protocols (reviewed semiannually).

• Assign projects, balance team workload, and ensure deadlines and quality benchmarks are met.

• Conduct final quality checks on drawing sets before approval or fabrication release.

• Collaborate daily with project managers, engineers, and shop leads to prevent rework and delays.

• Hire, train, and mentor team members; maintain a skill matrix and development roadmap.

• Track department KPIs and report performance in monthly operations reviews.

• Champion continuous improvement through peer review sessions and process audits.

• Provide technical leadership by stepping into high-risk or complex modeling scopes when needed.

• Associates degree (or higher) in Construction Management, Drafting, or a related field.

• 5+ years of experience detailing structural/miscellaneous steel in Tekla Structures.

• 2+ years of experience in detailing or project management leadership.

• Advanced knowledge of steel stair, railing, and miscellaneous metal detailing.

• Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate across teams.

• Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Teams.

• Bonus: Familiarity with AutoCAD or SolidWorks.
