Job Description – Property Manager
Position Overview
The Junior Property Manager supports the daily operations of a 72-unit residential apartment building, ensuring a safe, well-maintained, and welcoming environment for all residents. This role assists with tenant relations, compliance, maintenance coordination, and administrative tasks, with a particular focus on serving individuals and families transitioning from justice involvement as well as households qualifying for affordable housing. The Junior Property Manager works closely with the live-in superintendent, supportive service partners, front desk security staff and the senior property manager.
Key Responsibilities
Resident Relations & Community Engagement
• Maintain positive, professional relationships with residents using trauma-informed and culturally responsive communication.
• Assist residents during move-ins, unit orientations, lease renewals, and general support needs.
• Respond to resident inquiries, concerns, and complaints in a timely, respectful manner.
• Help diffuse conflicts and support community safety and stability through nonjudgmental, de-escalation approaches.
• Coordinate with onsite supportive service partners to ensure justice-involved individuals and families can access appropriate programs and resources.
• Support the activation and use of community spaces, including the rooftop farm and wellness-oriented programming.
Property Operations
• Conduct regular building and unit inspections to identify safety, cleanliness, and maintenance issues.
• Create, track, and follow up on maintenance work orders; collaborate with the live-in superintendent for timely resolution.
• Support building security procedures by monitoring entry systems and reporting unusual activity.
• Assist with rent collection, arrears tracking, payment plans, and issuance of required notices.
• Uphold lease agreements, house rules, and building policies while ensuring compliance with fair housing regulations.
• Support certification and recertification processes tied to the property’s green, wellness, and energy-efficiency design standards.
Collaboration & Coordination
• Work closely with supportive service partners to promote resident well-being and housing stability.
• Communicate effectively with the superintendent, maintenance staff, case managers, external vendors, and agency partners.
• Participate in team meetings, required trainings, and ongoing professional development, including trauma-informed care, green building operations, and conflict resolution.
• Contribute to a respectful, inclusive, and community-oriented building environment.
Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework or degree in property management, social services, criminal justice, or related field preferred.
• Prior experience in residential property management, supportive housing, social services, or customer service strongly preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage calmly and professionally with residents experiencing reentry, homelessness, or other challenges.
• Ability to maintain accurate records, manage multiple tasks, and follow through on assignments.
• Familiarity with fair housing laws and relevant city and state regulations (training provided).
• Comfortable working in a mission-driven, mixed-population housing environment.
• Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
• Familiarity with Yardi is a plus.

• This position is based on site in Brooklyn, NY.
