About This Position
Aalo Atomics is building factory-manufactured microreactors to provide reliable, affordable, and scalable nuclear energy. Our first product, the Aalo-1, is a 10 MWe advanced reactor designed with a focus on safety, modularity, and efficient deployment.
Based in Austin, TX, we are growing quickly as we work toward deploying the first fleet of advanced microreactors. Our goal is simple: expand access to dependable clean energy.
About the role
The VP, Legal will establish and lead Aalo’s legal function, serving as a key advisor to the executive team. This role will oversee commercial, corporate, transactional, and risk management matters across the company.
While Aalo will maintain dedicated regulatory/NRC expertise, this leader will manage regulatory interfaces and oversee outside counsel within a nuclear and infrastructure environment. This is a hands-on role suited for someone comfortable operating in a high-growth, capital-intensive company.
What you'll doCommercial & Project Contracts- Lead negotiation of customer offtake and energy services agreements
- Negotiate EPC, construction, and major supply agreements
- Support joint ventures and strategic partnerships
- Structure risk allocation for large-scale infrastructure projects
- Support commercial structuring of multi-year deployments
- Support Board governance and corporate documentation
- Manage subsidiaries and project entity formation
- Oversee equity plans and investor-related matters
- Support venture financings and strategic capital raises
- Contribute to long-term public company readiness
- Coordinate legal strategy alongside internal regulatory leadership
- Manage outside regulatory counsel
- Support compliance across NRC licensing, DOE engagement, environmental permitting, and export controls (ITAR/EAR)
- Nuclear regulatory experience is beneficial but not required
- Support equity and debt financings
- Assist with project finance structuring
- Review financing documentation and support lender diligence
- Contribute to tax credit monetization strategies
- Oversee IP strategy and portfolio management
- Coordinate with outside patent counsel
- Support licensing and technology transfer
- Develop enterprise risk management processes
- Oversee insurance programs
- Manage dispute resolution and claims
- Build scalable legal systems and manage outside counsel
- Hire and develop in-house legal talent over time
Required
- JD and active bar membership
- 10–15+ years of legal experience
- Experience negotiating complex commercial agreements
- Background in energy, infrastructure, manufacturing, EPC/construction, project finance, or government contracting
Preferred
- Experience in regulated industries
- Familiarity with federal regulatory environments
- Experience supporting capital raises or infrastructure finance
Ideal
- Exposure to nuclear regulatory frameworks or DOE engagement
- Experience in capital-intensive or first-of-a-kind deployments
- Practical, business-oriented judgment
- Ability to build systems and operate effectively in evolving environments
