Painter/Painting Technician at Southeast Steel Systems – Gibsonton, Florida

About the Role:

The Painter plays a critical role in ensuring the durability, safety, and aesthetic quality of steel products used across various industries. This position involves preparing steel surfaces through cleaning, sanding, and priming to create an optimal base for paint application. Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Proven experience as a painter in a manufacturing or industrial environment, preferably with steel or metal products.
• Knowledge of surface preparation techniques and painting equipment operation.
• Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and safety data sheets.
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy materials, and work in various environmental conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification in industrial painting or coatings application.
• Experience with abrasive blasting and spray painting in a manufacturing setting.
• Familiarity with OSHA regulations and environmental compliance standards.
• Basic mechanical skills to perform minor equipment maintenance.
• Experience working with different types of coatings such as epoxy, polyurethane, and zinc-rich primers.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare steel surfaces by removing rust, dirt, and old paint using abrasive blasting, sanding, or chemical treatments.
• Mix and apply primers, paints, and protective coatings according to manufacturer specifications and safety guidelines.
• Operate spray guns, brushes, rollers, and other painting equipment to apply coatings evenly and efficiently.
• Inspect painted surfaces for defects such as runs, drips, or uneven coverage and perform touch-ups as necessary.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations including proper handling of hazardous materials.
• Collaborate with production teams to meet project deadlines and quality standards.
• Document work performed and materials used for quality control and inventory management.
