About The Role

The Assistant Principal of Instruction is a dynamic instructional leader and culture builder who inspires trust, drives student achievement, and brings the school's vision to life every day. They champion ambitious, data-driven instruction, invest deeply in teacher growth through meaningful coaching and professional learning, and analyze data through a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens — ensuring every student has what they need to succeed on their path to postsecondary success.

Responsibilities:

Communication and Inspiration

  • Supports a culture of transparency and trust with all stakeholders
  • Responds to the needs of students, staff and families in an open manner
  • Models a commitment to excellence in all aspects of the school
  • Supports development of the administrative team’s school-wide vision & takes an active role in investing and mobilizing teachers to achieve the collective goals of the school
  • Owns the implementation of select school priorities in support of the school-wide vision
  • Collaborates with administrative team on hiring diverse, highly-effective teachers and school staff

Instructional Leadership

  • Drives implementation of the school’s mission and vision to prepare students for postsecondary success
  • Models & supports ambitious instruction by ensuring classes are challenging and engaging
  • Develops systems & processes to constantly gauge level of teaching and learning across the school
  • Designs professional learning that is rooted in research and based on current needs
  • Communicates areas of strengths & improvements related to instruction clearly and consistently supports the success of the Intrinsic POD model

Student Achievement & Growth
  • Transparently utilizes data to track school progress toward annual goals
  • Analyzes student academic and survey data via a diversity, equity, & inclusion lens
  • Monitors GPA, attendance and promotion data and develops school-wide plans for improvement as needed to ensure student success
  • Utilizes ACT / IAR and benchmark data to develop instructional insights to utilize student data in student-centered, challenging instruction & aligned curricula
  • Leads data-driven instruction by supporting teachers and coaches to:
    • Determine how data aligns to end-of-year goals (what is being assessed and how it maps to standards & competencies)
    • Disaggregate data to analyze how different student groups are performing
    • Determine what data is saying about areas of student mastery and growth

Coaching, Feedback, & Professional Learning

  • Provides high-quality instructional coaching with frequent, scheduled teacher observations, actionable & bite-sized feedback, and accountability for adjustment in practice
  • Oversees systems to review & provide feedback on instructional plans and lesson plans
  • Understands the implications of standards & competencies on what a student should know and be able to do
  • Connects teachers with relevant resources to improve their content and pedagogical knowledge
  • Collaborates with the administrative team to plan and facilitate professional development

Student Experience

  • Supports a culture of joy and celebration of students and successes
  • Nurtures a culture of strong relationships between students and staff
  • Ensures a safe learning environment for all students via a school-wide system of expectations and consequences
  • Supports the incorporation of restorative practices into all student disciplinary responses

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Supports the development and implementation of opportunities for students
  • Models strong staff & student culture
  • Collaborates with administrative team on hiring diverse, highly-effective teachers and school staff

Who You Are

Qualifications

  • Experience serving in an instructional leadership capacity, such as academic coach, Dean, or Assistant Principal
  • Minimum of 5 years teaching experience in a core content subject
  • A forward-thinking mindset regarding the ethical integration of AI in education, with a commitment to evolving instructional practices to meet the needs of a changing student landscape.
  • Track record of strong student outcomes
  • Knowledge of personalized learning with a focus on small group instruction
  • Experience using technology for instruction, communication, and efficiency
  • Experience conducting and facilitating professional development sessions
  • Strong and demonstrated commitment to advancing equity and justice in education and beyond
  • Excellent relationship-building and coaching skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
