We are currently looking for an experienced Hardware Engineering Director to support our engineering team.
In this role you will lead our global hardware engineering organization responsible for Passenger Information Systems (PIS) across transit environments. This includes stationary signs mounted at bus/train stations, as well as onboard infotainment displays, destination signs, control units, and associated electronic/mechanical subsystems installed in buses and trains.
You will own end-to-end hardware engineering, driving design, development, quality, certification, compliance, and reliability standards across products. As a key engineering leader, you will shape the technical direction of our hardware portfolio, streamline product families, optimize vendor/component strategies, and ensure our hardware solutions deliver worldclass reliability for customers worldwide.
What you will do:
Organizational Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and grow the Hardware Engineering organization across electrical and mechanical engineering disciplines.
- Foster a high-performance culture built on accountability, innovation, and engineering excellence.
- Manage a global distributed team
Hardware Strategy & Architecture
- Define the technical roadmap for next generation PIS hardware including display systems, compute/control units, connectivity modules, and robustness/reliability features.
- Drive platform unification, architecture convergence, shared components, and standardized design practices across product lines.
- Lead portfolio rationalization of hardware platforms, components, and processes to reduce complexity and cost.
Design, Development & Engineering Excellence
- Own all phases of hardware engineering: concept, architecture, schematic design, PCB layout, mechanical design, prototyping, validation, certification, and release.
- Champion strong hardware processes including requirements management, DFMEA, DFM, reliability engineering, and design reviews.
- Ensure compliance with global environmental, safety, EMC, transit, and regulatory standards (e.g., FCC, CE, EN50155/EN45545, UL).
- Drive adoption of robust component life-cycle management and obsolescence strategies.
Quality, Reliability & Certification
- Establish and enforce hardware quality and reliability practices.
- Guide environmental, vibration, thermal, and long-duration stress testing to ensure hardware meets real-world transit demands.
- Strengthen validation processes, test infrastructure, interoperability testing, and durability standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Production, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, Procurement, and Repair teams to ensure smooth transition from design to production and field operations.
- Collaborate with Product Management and Program Management to align hardware plans with business priorities and customer requirements.
- Drive vendor interaction, qualification, and performance management to ensure component quality, cost efficiency, and long-term supply stability.
Global Market & Customization
- Lead hardware customization and configuration for regional regulatory needs and customer-specific requirements worldwide.
- Oversee documentation, manufacturing packages, and variant control for international deployments.
Execution & Delivery Excellence
- Own end-to-end hardware project execution, ensuring schedule adherence, cost compliance, and product quality.
- Drive continuous improvement of engineering processes, tools, and metrics to increase engineering velocity and product reliability.
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Progressive hardware engineering experience, some years in an engineering leadership role.
- Proven experience developing connected industrial hardware.
- Deep expertise in electrical design, embedded interfaces, PCB design, and mechanical design principles.
- Strong knowledge of reliability engineering, environmental testing, EMC/EMI compliance, and global certification processes.
- Track record of building and leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and scaling engineering organizations.
- Experience collaborating with manufacturing, supply chain, vendors, and customer-facing organizations.
