What You’ll Do
As a Pharmacist, you will report to the Pharmacy Manager. Provides efficient and accurate dispensing of pharmaceuticals in accordance with legal, regulatory and accrediting agency standards and in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. Oversees, reviews and checks all work of technical and student support staff when that work involves medication preparation and/or dispensing. Consults with medical staff, clinical pharmacy practitioners, nurses, hospital staff and others within the community to coordinate delivery of high quality pharmaceutical services to hospital patients
Clinical Pharmacist Job Responsibilities
- Medication Preparation & Dispensing: Interprets and transcribes physician medication orders accurately; fills and verifies packages; prepares IV admixtures using aseptic technique.
- Medication Therapy Management: Monitors therapy for contraindications, interactions, allergies, dosing, and therapeutic duplications; assists with dosing services; detects and reports adverse reactions and medication errors.
- Clinical Consultation & Information: Provides drug information, therapeutic alternatives, and clarifications to staff, patients, and families; documents all clinical activities; conducts pharmaceutical research as needed.
- Formulary & Cost Management: Maintains formulary compliance, promotes rational medication selection, and minimizes non-formulary procurement.
- Pharmaceutical Integrity & Safety: Conducts monthly inspections of patient care areas; ensures proper handling, storage, and availability of medications.
- Records & Compliance: Maintains accurate records of pharmaceutical procurement, dispensing, and use; verifies technical staff work; ensures proper charging of medications and services.
- Supervision & Department Support: Supervises departmental support personnel; initiates or coordinates special projects; completes other job-related duties as assigned.
- Professional Competence & Education: Maintains licensure/certification, completes mandatory education and competencies, maintains BCLS/CPR, and follows universal precautions and ergonomic standards.
- Organizational Compliance & Availability: Attends meetings, adheres to policies and regulatory requirements, participates in surveys, and is available for overtime or additional shifts as needed.

As a Pharmacist, this role requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with physicians, hospital staff, and other healthcare professionals, ensuring the delivery of optimal pharmaceutical care. Additionally, it demands a thorough knowledge of policies, procedures, and standards governing the provision of pharmaceutical services.
Required Qualifications
- The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or a Pharm D degree from an accredited school of pharmacy or successful completion of the foreign pharmacy equivalency exam and licensure as a registered pharmacist or eligible for licensure in the State of Indiana.
