About This Position

Description:

Under the direction of the Director of Nursing, the Assistant Director of Nursing oversees designated administrative and operational functions within the Nursing Department. This role supports the Director of Nursing in the overall management of the department, ensuring compliance with company policies, standards of nursing practice, and applicable government regulations, while promoting the efficient delivery of high-quality resident care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Carries out, coordinates, and oversees administrative functions and programs related to Nursing Services, including departmental documentation, medical records, nursing and ancillary supplies, quality assurance, care plans, MDS, infection control, restorative care, skin care programs, Medicare services, restraint reduction, medication management, alternative duty, safety programs, staff scheduling, employee selection, training, and orientation.
  • Collaborates with and supports the Director of Nursing, Administrator, and consultants in planning and coordinating all aspects of nursing services, ensuring effective integration with other disciplines and departments.
  • Assists the Director of Nursing in monitoring the day-to-day operations of the Nursing Department, including oversight of records, budgets, and supplies.
  • Supports the management of nursing care by monitoring quality of care and resident activity; assessing resident status; administering medications and treatments; overseeing admissions and discharges; and consulting with family members, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Serves as Acting Director of Nursing, Charge Nurse, or in other nursing roles as needed, exercising limited or full authority as appropriate.
  • Ensures compliance with State, Federal, and company quality assurance standards and promptly alerts management to potential non-compliance issues.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with government regulators, residents’ families, healthcare partners, and the community at large.
  • Ensures staff understanding of and compliance with all residents’ rights regulations.
  • Supervises, conducts, and participates in departmental and facility-wide education programs and staff meetings.
Requirements:
  • Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in good standing and currently licensed by the State.
  • Must have related experience at a level necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position.
  • Must be able to interact positively with residents, families, and regulatory agencies, and work collaboratively with employees at all levels.
  • Must be able to maintain consistent attendance and be willing to work long or irregular hours, often under pressure.
  • Must comply with all local health regulations and successfully complete a post-offer health assessment.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Physical and Sensory Requirements (with or without the use of mechanical devices):
  • Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English to communicate effectively with residents, families, staff, and community agencies.
  • Ability to perform physical activities such as walking, reaching, bending, stretching, pulling, and lifting.
  • Adequate fine and gross motor coordination to carry out required tasks.

Work Environment:

  • Long-term care facility setting.
  • Exposure to residents with varying levels of care needs.
  • May include evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts.
