Technical Procurement Specialist at Poseidon Ocean Systems – Campbell River, British Columbia
About This Position
Position Summary
Poseidon Ocean Systems is seeking a detail-oriented and technically proficient Technical Procurement Specialist to support the procurement of engineered components, materials, and services for our marine technology projects.
Reporting to the Technical Procurement Manager, this role works closely with Engineering, Production, and Quality teams to ensure timely, cost-effective, and specification-compliant purchasing. The ideal candidate understands technical drawings and specifications and thrives in a fast-paced, project-driven manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Procure engineered components, raw materials, and specialized services in alignment with project timelines and production schedules
- Review technical drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and specifications to ensure accurate sourcing
- Collaborate closely with Engineering teams to clarify technical requirements and support new product development
- Obtain and evaluate supplier quotations, negotiate pricing, and issue purchase orders
- Monitor supplier performance, lead times, and delivery schedules
- Expedite critical materials to prevent production delays
- Identify and vet suppliers and value-engineering opportunities to reduce cost while maintaining quality
- Ensure compliance with company procurement policies and ISO quality standards
- Maintain accurate purchasing records within ERP/MRP systems
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within procurement and supply chain processes
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Supply Chain, Engineering Technology, Business, or related field
- 3–5 years of purchasing experience in a technical, manufacturing, or industrial environment
- Experience working with engineered products or technical components
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Strong negotiation and supplier management skills
- Ability to speak Mandarin is an asset.
- Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems
- Highly experienced in Microsoft products, especially Excel
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
