About This Position
Barista (Part Time)
Requirements:
Salary Range: $16 an hour + tips (roughly $20 an hour)
Benefits: One FREE meal for every shift, including a coffee and/or drink of choice. NO late nights or weekend shifts. Free onsite parking. Discounted membership rate of only $99/year for the onsite gym.
Location: 101 S Tryon St, Charlotte, NC 28280 – Perks Cafe is a coffee and cocktail bar that opened in 2021 inside the One South office building in the heart of Uptown.
Work Hours: Monday - Thursday 7:30 AM - 12:30 PM with occasional availability for overtime to assist with staff shortages or special events. All shifts have the possibility to be adjusted upon prior agreement.
Reports to: Perks Cafe Manager
Your Mission:Your mission is to deliver a personalized, elevated cafe experience at the Perks Cafe that leaves a lasting impression on every tenant and guest. You bring valuable experience and understand that how things are done here matters. You are expected to learn and follow our café standards, rather than rely on past habits, and to adjust quickly and positively when feedback is shared.
Outcomes Youll Deliver: - Service Execution:
- Follow all service standards exactly as trained. Acknowledge feedback from management and adjust immediately when expectations are not met.
- Learn all menu items, specials, and promotions and review them before every shift. Accurately measure, prepare, and serve all beverages exactly to standard.
- Deliver efficient, attentive service across cafe, events, and room bookings. Guide guests through menu options and upsell.
- Support catering and event sales opportunities.
- Handle feedback professionally from guests and escalate when needed.
- Support back of house as needed including expo, cleaning cafe items, and running food.
- Cleanliness and Efficiency:
- Follow all SOPs and food safety standards at all times.
- Keep workspaces clean, stocked, and fully reset throughout your shift.
- Own opening and closing so transitions between shifts are seamless.
- Contribute to maintaining a 96 percent or higher health score.
- Follow FIFO, label and store products correctly.
- Measure accurately to reduce waste.
- Communicate inventory issues or inefficiencies proactively.
- Team Accountability:
- Show up on time, prepared, and ready to work.
- Take direction from the cafe manager and apply feedback without hesitation.
- Communicate clearly with the team. Familiarize yourself with Slack and Google Calendar.
- Contribute to a positive, solution focused environment.
- 2+ years of barista experience in a high-quality café environment
- ServSafe certification highly preferred. Must be willing to obtain within the first 90 days of hire.
- Hands-on experience operating a fully manual espresso machine (dialing in shots, milk texturing, workflow efficiency)
- Strong understanding and training of café service standards, cleanliness, and food safety expectations
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs
- Hospitality forward mindset with a willingness to grow
- Coachability: Brings prior barista experience while remaining receptive to feedback and committed to learning and executing café-specific service standards
- Adaptability: Steps in where needed to support service flow, teammates, and operational priorities as they shift throughout the day
- Multitasking: Manages multiple service demands efficiently without sacrificing quality, accuracy, or the guest experience
- Ownership: Takes responsibility for their station, ensuring cleanliness, readiness, and smooth transitions between shifts
- Attention to Detail: Maintains consistent presentation, food safety practices, and adherence to service standards at all times
