About This Position
American Wood Fibers (AWF) is a manufacturer of both consumer and industrial products that are sold to multiple manufacturers as well as pet, agricultural, and home-heating markets. AWF is comprised of 450+ employees and holds operations at 11 locations, generating over $100M in annual sales revenue. We are currently seeking a candidate for the 2nd Shift Production Supervisor role in our Marysville, CA facility.
JOB SUMMARY
The Production Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating shift employees to maximize production, shipping and paperwork.
Primary duties to include, but not limited to the following:
- SAFETY:
Managers/supervisors are critical to a successful safety program. They must actively participate in, and lead the safety process by, conducting specific safety-related activities regularly. Responsibilities/duties include:
- Provide all employees with training regarding these requirements and ensure they understand them.
- Ensure that all employees are fully trained and that each training session is recorded and documented with the employee’s signature.
- Participate in or conduct job safety planning meetings (when required) for assigned work, requiring all employees to be in attendance.
- Ensure that all areas prescribed as dangerous are marked with the type of hazard involved.
- Inspect all tools and equipment frequently to ensure that they are safe. Those that are in poor condition should be taken out of service immediately.
- Monitor compliance with the program and provide leadership, authority, and decisiveness in dealing with non-complying employees, up to, and including terminating their employment (following the disciplinary procedures with HR guidance).
- Provide on-going input into the program for necessary changes in procedures as determined by changes in working conditions, violations noted, and unique situations.
- Provide employees with information, as furnished, and maintain close contact with Corporate Safety regarding any changes. Encourage employees to actively take immediate action to correct unsafe conditions created.
- IMMEDIATELY STOP WORK in areas which present immediate hazards or become life threatening.
- Ensure that all injuries/illnesses are promptly treated and reported.
- Investigate ALL accidents and submit completed Velocity report.
- Have all necessary safety/health equipment available for use and require employees to use it.
- Determine customers' requirements and evaluate them. These should be planned into the jobs, including additional or unusual safety/health control methods. participate in accident prevention measures by submitting ideas, alerting their supervisor of “near miss”, etc.
- PRODUCTION:
- Supervises and coordinates activities of plant employees in wood flour production. Trains and assists employees in order to complete assignments according to proper plant procedures. Analyzes shift duties to determine correct amount of time and material required to complete orders in the most efficient manner.
- Gives instructions to employees regarding jobs to be completed and the proper method in which to complete them. Supervises plant for cleanliness, safety, quality control and optimum production.
- Confers with other supervisors and communicates with peers, subordinates and management in a professional manner to assure assignments are being properly completed.
- Carries out inspections and assists in building and machinery repair in order to ensure a safe and well-maintained work environment.
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
- SHIPPING AND RECEIVING:
- Supervises loading and unloading of trucks and completion of paperwork. Verifies incoming shipments, completes a daily inventory count and production report.
- EVALUATIONS:
- Completes and presents performance evaluations for shift employees. Recommends promotions or transfers of personnel. Verifies accuracy of time cards for payroll. Monitors attendance of subordinates as well as compliance to plant rules. Recommends and implements disciplinary action as required.
- QUALITY:
- Maintains and verifies that all current quality assurance measures are being followed and communicated to production employees, office personnel and customers. Assists in the design and implementation of new procedures as needed.
- HOUSEKEEPING:
- Sets goals and expectations and communicates purpose, looks for ways to eliminate problem sources. Provide and monitor housekeeping and provide related feedback.
- Assure all daily mobile equipment checks are completed at the beginning of each shift. Assure all weekly blow down & cleaning schedules are completed and signed off.
- OTHER DUTIES:
- Conducts a weekly supervisor’s meeting. Establishes personal goals and works with fellow employees towards continuous improvement and teamwork.
- PERSONAL GROWTH:
- Attends and participates in scheduled meeting of the plant. Be alert to those around you, including peers, reporting personnel, customers, competitors; learning as you listen and observe.
- Establish personal goals and work with fellow employees towards continuous improvement to utilize, stretch and further develop our individual and collective abilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Associates or Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)
EXPERIENCE
- 5 years Supervisory experience (preferred)
- 5 years Industrial equipment (preferred)
- 5 years Manufacturing experience
COMPENSATION
$24.00 to $28.00 per hour
