JOB SUMMARY: In this role, you will help sustain Mennel’s tradition of excellence established in 1886 as well as support our food safety programs and mission to reliably deliver superior quality, uniformity, and service. The primary responsibilities of this position are to oversee all aspects of Facility Sanitation Program, management of Food Safety Standards to include document control for production and non-production areas including production and non-production areas.
PRIMARY WORK SHIFT: Works schedule as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Follow all food and personal safety rules and regulations in respect to GMP’s, OSHA, HACCP, the Global Food Safety Initiative, the US FDA Food Safety Modernization Act as stated in the FS&Q Statement, and sanitation guidelines as set forth by the company as listed in Corporate Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) and attend all required training sessions.
- Maintain the department/facility in an everyday audit ready condition.
- Provide QRO leadership and management for the Newton Facility in areas of Food Safety and IPM Programs
- Provide leadership and direction in the day-to-day sanitation, pest management, and chemical control programs.
- Direct sanitationemployee’s activities and establish priorities for cleaning in keeping with effective operation and Master Sanitation Schedule.
- Prepare and Maintain the Master Sanitation Schedule to effectively address all areas and equipment to meet Mennel’s Food Safety Standards.
- Track and Report overall KPI and departmental KPI on effectiveness of schedule completion
- Prepare blow down schedule and assign sanitation tasks to ensure a thorough and successful clean-up day.
- Manage Integrated Pest Management Program and contractors maintenance.
- Ensure all documentation required for Integrated Pest Management Program is maintained, accurate, available, and up-to-date.
- Ensure required certifications and training for Pest Applications are maintained and up-to date for self, third party contractor and sanitation employees.
- Make recommendations for and manage all fumigation and fogging activities. Over see entire process to ensure safety, and proper and effective application.
- Responsible for the selection and usage of appropriate chemicals, dispensing devices and allied equipment, including managing cost benefits aspects.
- Maintain and update SOPs, OPL’s and Forms related to sanitation, pest management and chemical control processes and maintain their point of use. Ensure all sanitation, pest management and chemical control activities are being performed according to the SOP’s and OPL’s.
- In conjunction with Plant Management and Quality Manager is responsible for ensuring a risk assessment is performed for food safety incidents and all impacted product is contained.
- Participate in monthly internal food safety audits.
- Active member on the HACCP and Food Safety Team.
- Provide training for Mennel employees on Sanitation, pest management, and chemical handling
- Safely operate material handling and elevated work equipment, including forklifts and scissor lifts, in accordance with company safety policies and OSHA guidelines.
- Other duties may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position directly manages the QRO Leads and QRO Technicians on four different crews within sanitation, pest management, chemical control, food safety and safety.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job
- A minimum of an Associate Degree or 2-4years related experience required. 5-7years experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of sanitation regulations, food safety standards, and proper cleaning procedures within a food manufacturing environment.
- Strong written, verbal communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lead constructive, positive change within the plant environment.
- Ability to recognize, diagnose, and solve sanitation and food safety issues within the plant and warehouse setting.
- Ability to work effectively with a variety of people, teams, and departments.
- Ability to be flexible with work hours, shifting priorities, and ambiguity.
- Flexibility and motivation to cover all areas of Sanitation and able to create innovative solutions to problems with limited resources.
- Bias for action and results, takes initiative.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, memos, procedures, and plans. Ability to write, complete checklists and other basic documentation and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information or data in one-on-one and small group situations to co-workers, supervisors, and managers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY:
Must use solid judgment when making decisions. Must have ability to quickly recognize and plan for changing work duties and events.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to conditions that are typical to a fast- paced manufacturing environment, including: moving equipment and machinery, dusty, hot/humid, and cold conditions; employee must be willing to work in all weather conditions, at heights, and in the presence of airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment usually requires the use of hearing protection. Work involves exposure to common wheat allergens.
