Safety and Training Coordinator at Simplex Inc – Springfield, Illinois

This position works closely with all levels of the organization, including Production, Operations, HR, Engineering, Quality, Scheduling, and Materials. This role requires strong organizational oversight across multiple facilities and shifts. Primary responsibilities include coordinating safety and training activities, maintaining safety and training documentation, supporting onboarding efforts, and assisting with safety compliance throughout the production process at all Simplex locations. This role requires strong utilization of Microsoft applications and internal systems.

This position is expected to be a hands-on professional who is actively involved in learning to increase understanding of the manufacturing processes at Simplex and is regularly present on the production floor to support consistent safety and training practices across the organization.

• Coordinate safety and training activities across multiple Simplex facilities and shifts
• Support consistent application of safety policies, training requirements, and documentation standards across locations
• Coordinate new-hire onboarding training and required safety orientations
• Maintain training and safety records, certifications, and documentation in an audit-ready condition
• Track required training completion by role and department; maintain training matrices and skills tracking
• Coordinate classroom, hands-on, and refresher training in partnership with supervisors and managers
• Conduct routine safety walkthroughs and audits, document observations
• Support incident and near-miss reporting, documentation, and corrective action follow-up
• Assist with root cause documentation and track corrective actions through closure
• Support development and maintenance of SOPs, work instructions, and training materials
• Communicate safety and training requirements and schedules to supervisors and employees
• Assist with cross-training coordination to improve workforce flexibility
• Support internal audits, inspections, and regulatory documentation; assist as a point of contact during visits
• Maintain workflows that ensure timely adherence to safety and training requirements
• Communicate directly with multiple departments across the organization

This role coordinates and administers safety and training execution across multiple facilities but does not maintain direct supervisory or managerial authority.

• Education and/or experience equivalent to a two-year degree
• Demonstrated successful oral and written communication skills
• Strong organizational and administrative skills
• Working knowledge of basic safety principles; OSHA familiarity preferred
• Computer proficiency, including MS Word, Outlook, Excel, and document control systems
• Ability to work effectively with various departments and positions across the organization
• Ability to work both in the office and on the production floor daily
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively under deadlines
• Physical capability consistent with a typical manufacturing/production environment
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English clearly
• Working knowledge of manufacturing environments, including production workflows, material movement, and shop-floor operations is preferred
