About This Position
Position Overview
The Senior Accounting and Tax Specialist is primarily responsible for managing special projects related to the filing of multiple sales and excise tax reports, tax research and tax planning. In addition, this position includes various general accounting responsibilities. The position will interact with multiple internal departments, customers, vendors and state tax departments to resolve accounting, excise, and sales tax matters.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare account reconciliations and journal entries to support accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year end close for assigned areas
- Assist with maintaining up-to-date and accurate state registrations for the appropriate state returns
- Research and follow up on fuel excise tax discrepancies
- Assist with resolving tax issues
- Assist with reporting of sales to government entities
- Collaborate with other accounting staff to support department goals and objectives
- Maintain files of current customer state registration copies
- Enter and maintain customer set-ups, taxes, and billing information after credit approval
- Timely and accurate reporting and filing of occasional monthly and quarterly sales and excise tax returns
- Other duties as assigned
Required/Preferred Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field with 5+ years of related business experience
- High level of attention to detail and reconciliation skills
- Experience with analysis and reporting of financial transactions
- Experience with filing sales and/or excise tax a plus
- Proficient in Excel and Outlook
- High level of written and oral communication skills
- Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines required
- High level of integrity and accountability
Working Environment and Physical Demands
This position operates in a fast-paced, professional environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones. While performing duties of this job, you will be regularly required to talk, read, hear, sit, stand, bend as necessary, and use your hands to type.
