About This Position
Summary of Position:
The Controller is a key financial leader responsible for overseeing the accounting operations of the organization, including financial reporting, internal controls, audits, and compliance. This role supports a fast-paced, multi-site healthcare environment and plays a critical role in maintaining financial discipline, optimizing accounting processes, and partnering with executive leadership to support strategic initiatives.
The Controller will work closely with the CFO and cross-functional leaders to ensure accurate financial reporting, operational efficiency, and successful integration of acquisitions in a private equity-backed healthcare platform.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership:
- Manage and mentor a growing accounting team; support professional development and succession planning.
- Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and process improvement.
Financial Reporting & Close:
- Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
- Prepare consolidated financial statements for the enterprise, including roll-ups from multiple locations.
- Lead the preparation of board and lender reporting packages.
Accounting Operations:
- Manage day-to-day accounting functions including GL, AP, AR, payroll, and fixed assets.
- Ensure strong internal controls are in place and maintained, especially in a multi-location clinical setting.
- Develop and implement standardized accounting procedures across all sites.
Audit & Compliance:
- Serve as the primary liaison for annual financial audits, working closely with external auditors to ensure successful and timely audits.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations, healthcare accounting standards, and all relevant financial laws and policies.
Mergers & Acquisitions Integration:
- Support financial due diligence and post-close integration for new acquisitions.
- Standardize accounting practices for acquired clinics and ensure smooth onboarding into central systems.
Financial Systems & Technology:
- Oversee implementation and optimization of accounting software, EMR interfaces, and other financial tools.
- Partner with IT and operations to ensure systems align with business needs.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Assist in the development of annual budgets and rolling forecasts in partnership with FP&A and department leaders.
- Provide insights on variances, financial risks, and opportunities.
Revenue Recognition & RCM Collaboration
- Work closely with the Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) team to monitor net patient service revenue, analyze contractual allowances, and ensure accurate revenue recognition across various payer mixes.
- Partner with operational and finance teams to review reimbursement trends, identify revenue variances, and support accurate financial reporting related to patient revenue and payer performance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a Controller or Assistant Controller role.
- Multi-site healthcare experience required; prior experience in a private equity-backed company is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, revenue recognition, and healthcare-specific accounting practices.
- Proficient in financial systems such as QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, NetSuite, or similar ERP software.
- Demonstrated experience in audit management, process improvement, and team leadership.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Experience with EMR integration and healthcare revenue cycle operations.
- Strong knowledge of consolidation accounting and intercompany transactions.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Occasional travel to clinics or partner sites as needed.
