Position Summary

Five Star Marketplace is seeking a motivated and dependable Assistant Store Manager to support the daily operations of our grocery store in Knox, Indiana. This role works closely with the Store Manager to ensure smooth store operations, strong team performance, excellent customer service, and consistent merchandising and operational standards.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who can help supervise staff, support department operations, maintain store standards, and step into a leadership role when the Store Manager is not present.

Core Responsibilities
Store Operations
Assist with daily store operations including opening and closing procedures
Ensure store standards for cleanliness, safety, and organization are maintained
Support compliance with company policies and food safety regulations
Monitor store activity and address operational issues as they arise

Team Leadership
Assist with supervising and supporting store employees
Help train new employees and reinforce company expectations
Provide feedback to staff and communicate performance concerns to management
Promote a positive, professional, and team-oriented work environment

Inventory & Merchandising
Support inventory management, stocking, and product rotation
Ensure pricing accuracy and proper shelf labeling
Maintain attractive and well-stocked displays throughout the store
Assist departments with merchandising and promotional displays

Customer Experience
Lead by example in delivering excellent customer service
Assist customers with questions, product location, and concerns
Resolve customer issues professionally and escalate when necessary
Help maintain a welcoming and organized shopping environment

Operational Support
Assist with scheduling and shift coverage as needed
Monitor store performance and help maintain operational efficiency
Support store initiatives including promotions, seasonal planning, and inventory events

Qualifications & Requirements
2+ years of grocery management experience
Strong leadership and communication skills
Ability to supervise staff and manage multiple priorities
Knowledge of grocery store operations and merchandising practices
Strong problem-solving and organizational abilities
High school diploma or equivalent required
This role requires standing for extended periods and occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs.

Schedule Expectations
Primarily daytime hours
Some evenings and weekends required
Full-time, in-store leadership presence
