Computer Vision / Sensor Fusion Engineer (Senior Research Scientist)
Overview
Tech(x) is seeking a Computer Vision / Sensor Fusion Engineer to support advanced research and development programs involving 3D imaging, multi-sensor perception systems, and autonomous sensing technologies. The selected candidate will support defense and research initiatives involving stereo vision systems, radar/IR sensor integration, and real-time image processing architectures for next-generation sensing platforms.
This role supports the design, development, and integration of advanced perception technologies used in defense, robotics, and autonomous sensing systems.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop computer vision and 3D imaging systems for defense and research applications.
- Develop algorithms for stereo vision, structured-light imaging, and 3D reconstruction.
- Support multi-sensor fusion architectures integrating radar, infrared sensors, stereo cameras, and other sensing modalities.
- Develop and implement real-time image processing algorithms and software architectures.
- Design and test autonomous perception and sensing systems used in robotics or advanced platforms.
- Conduct system architecture design and performance analysis for sensor-based technologies.
- Support algorithm development, embedded implementation, and prototype system integration.
- Contribute to advanced R&D programs funded by DoD agencies, including Navy, Air Force, DARPA, and other federal sponsors.
- Support laboratory testing, evaluation, and validation of imaging and sensing systems.
- Prepare technical briefings, documentation, and presentations for government stakeholders.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Demonstrated experience in computer vision, stereo vision, and 3D imaging systems.
- Experience developing real-time image processing algorithms.
- Demonstrated knowledge of sensor technologies including stereo cameras, infrared cameras, radar, and laser rangefinders.
- Experience developing multi-sensor fusion systems for perception or sensing applications.
- Experience with software development in C, C++, MATLAB, or similar languages.
- Demonstrated ability to support advanced research and development programs.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting DoD research programs.
- Experience with SLAM, robotic perception, or autonomous sensing technologies.
- Experience developing 3D reconstruction or imaging algorithms.
- Experience supporting radar or counter-UAS sensing systems.
- Experience developing GUI applications for visualization or sensing platforms.
- Patent or publication history in computer vision, imaging systems, or sensor technologies.
Clearance:
Current DoW Secret level clearance or the ability to obtain one.
Education & Experience:
- Ph.D. in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of experience in computer vision, imaging systems, or sensor technologies.
- Experience supporting defense or federally funded research programs is preferred.
Location:
- Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland.
- Monday-Friday, on site.
Travel:
Scheduled quarterly and sometimes monthly meets.
