About This Position
The City of Sandy Springs is seeking an experienced Field Services Superintendent to lead critical infrastructure maintenance and repair operations across our community. In this role, you’ll oversee roadway, right-of-way, and drainage projects that directly impact the safety, mobility, and quality of life for our residents and visitors.
This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who thrives in the field, excels at coordinating teams and contractors, and takes pride in delivering high-quality public infrastructure projects.
What You’ll DoAs the Field Services Superintendent, you will plan, coordinate, and oversee municipal street and right-of-way maintenance projects while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable standards.
Key responsibilities include:
Manage roadway maintenance programs including street repair, resurfacing, patching, sidewalks, curbs, and gutter replacement.
Plan and schedule projects, allocate resources, and coordinate with contractors and internal staff to keep work progressing efficiently.
Inspect work in progress and completed projects to ensure compliance with City, State, and Federal standards.
Monitor project budgets and contractor performance, reviewing invoices, validating labor and material charges, and recommending payments.
Conduct regular field inspections of roads, bridges, and drainage infrastructure to identify maintenance needs and recommend solutions.
Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with safety standards, including MUTCD guidelines.
Respond to emergencies and right-of-way issues, including rotational after-hours on-call responsibilities.
Communicate with staff, contractors, and the public to coordinate work activities and resolve operational issues.
Support policy development and operational improvements within the Public Works Department.
High School Diploma or GED
8+ years of experience in roadway construction and paving
2+ years of supervisory or management experience
Valid Georgia Driver’s License
National Incident Management System (NIMS) training
GSWCC Level 1B Erosion Control Inspection Certification
Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Associate’s Degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Management
12+ years of roadway construction and paving experience
5+ years in a management or supervisory role
Successful candidates will bring:
Strong knowledge of roadway construction, paving materials, and maintenance practices
Experience with utilities, drainage systems, and right-of-way infrastructure
Ability to read blueprints, surveys, and construction specifications
Excellent communication and leadership skills
Experience managing contractors, budgets, and infrastructure projects
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities in field environments
Proficiency with computer software for reporting, spreadsheets, and documentation
This position involves both office and field work and may include:
Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
Exposure to construction environments and equipment
Physical activity including lifting, climbing, standing, and walking
Participation in Public Works emergency response and severe weather operations
