Duties for This Position

Under the direction of the Nurse Administrator, the OR Manager supervises all personnel and all related activities involving the hospital operating room. Plans assignment of staff, instrument set-ups, lay-out of tables for various procedures while considering the surgeon’s needs and requirements. Ensures general procedures and list requirements are prepared specific to each surgeon. Informs staff of new procedures, administrative changes, special instruments and/or sutures required for scheduled procedures and problems in asepsis. Addresses major problems and surgical procedures with staff. Conducts proper orientation and in-service training programs to provide optimal patient care, and efficient assistance to surgeons. Ensures strict observance of aseptic techniques, and acquaints personnel with proper methods and techniques before participating in operative procedures.

Education Requirements

Graduate of accredited School of Nursing.

Certification, Registration, or Licensure

Current Utah R.N. license, current CPR, ACLS and and PALS certification

Experience

Minimum three years of experience as a staff nurse in acute care setting required.

Minimum two years experience circulating in OR.

Minimum one year experience in a supervisory role.

Required Skills

Strong written and verbal communication capabilities. Must be flexible in a demanding environment and be able to prioritize, using good judgment. Requires ability to coordinate a variety of issues while being frequently interrupted and remain calm during times of crisis.
