The Hillman Cancer Center (HCC) provides exceptional patient care as a world leader in understanding, preventing, and treating cancer through the integration of scientific discovery, clinical excellence, and community partnerships, while training the next generation of cancer experts.
Develops communications strategy and initiatives and works with University marketing, communications, and media contacts for media coverage. Utilizes social media and developing metrics and prepares subsequent updates for stakeholders. Facilitates project management, oversees and prepares scientific communications, and leverages contacts to create strategic vision visibility. Connects fund raisers and communication professionals with faculty and leadership. Facilitates guest visits and logistics.
Essential Functions
This role will work in support of the Cancer Center Director as Chief of Staff. Writing, editing, and preparing written and presentation materials for meetings with internal and external stakeholders, University leadership and/or programmatic staff; Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills required; must demonstrate the ability to write and speak in public settings as well as ability to communicate with a variety of audiences. Strong use of Sharepoint and Teams; Must demonstrate ability to multi-task, prioritize to meet deadlines, attention to details and accuracy as well as time management skills and follow through.
This is a pivotal executive leadership position within UPMC Hillman Cancer Center responsible for providing support for the Cancer Center Director. The incumbent will assist the Director in preparing for meetings, retaining a working knowledge of their obligations to ensure they are in the right place at the right time, provide written materials as directed eg. written briefs, progress reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders, letters of support coming from the office of the Director. They will also be expected to facilitate project management of large-scale proposals, including integration of data and documentation from multiple sources and preparation of collaborative proposals. They will take responsibility for the team of staff in the office of the Director to organize and facilitate guest visits and meetings in coordination with other departments, including travel, background materials, staffing and presentations. A strong preference will be given to candidates with a Master’s degree or PhD.

Little physical effort required. Duties are primarily sedentary. May be required to move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally.
