ABOUT THE ROLE
The Transitional Day Program (TDP) is a drop-in center for homeless youth 18 to 24 years old in Boston. Youth utilizing the TDP are typically sleeping outside, staying in emergency shelters, or couch surfing. The TDP offers survival services (food, showers, laundry & clothing) as well as intensive case management and support services to help youth move beyond the streets into safe and stable housing. The TDP Counselor is responsible for overseeing the program milieu, building therapeutic rapport with youth, and providing case management services.
RESPONSIBILTIES
- Supervision of the program milieu/drop-in, utilizing effective crisis management/intervention skills.
- Administer/coordinate program participants’ basic needs and survival services, including breakfast, lunch, showers, laundry, computer games, field trips, outings, and physical exercise.
- Provide and facilitate skills-building group activities and workshops
- Manage intensive case management, including referrals as needed.
- Connect program participants with opportunities to engage services including education, employment, housing, mental healthcare and substance abuse services
- Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Two or more years of experience working with youth ages 18 to 24 in one or more of the following areas: housing management, job development, community relations, substance abuse or recreational counseling.
- Bachelor’s degree is human services, Social Work, or any related degree is preferred.
SKILLS AND STRENGTHS
- Comfort and confidence working in a fast-paced dynamic work environment.
- Enthusiastic about working with a homeless transitional youth population.
- Ability to identify and execute effective problem-solving strategies. Must possess sound crises intervention and conflict resolution skills.
PAY AND BENEFITS
The hourly rate for this position is $20.00/ hour, Weekend Differential: +$3.00/ hour (Total $23.00/ hour on weekends)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit, work at a computer, stand and walk, and must be able to lift /move weight up to 25 pounds. The employee also must be able to hear and speak sufficiently to manage phone calls and effectively communicate/converse with others. The employee must have visual acuity and cognitive capacity to read, understand, and draft reports, letters, etc. The noise level is quiet to moderate, however, the employee must be able to perform in various settings, including in public spaces and at public events/activities.
