About This Position

Position Summary


The Outreach Peer Specialist plays an important role in connecting individuals struggling with addiction to recovery services. With peer support certification and lived experience in recovery, this position bridges the gap between community members in crisis and the care they need. This role combines street-level outreach, hospital and shelter coordination, and representation of DeCoach at community events to make sure that every person we encounter has a clear path to recovery.


Key Responsibilities

  • Street Outreach: Proactively engage individuals experiencing addiction and connect them to immediate services at DeCoach, especially detox.
  • Hospital & Shelter Coordination: Serve as a liaison with hospitals, homeless shelters, and other community organizations to provide rapid linkage to treatment.
  • Community Engagement: Represent DeCoach at resource fairs, trade shows, coalition meetings, and recovery-related events.
  • Admissions Support: Assist with admissions processes, transportation coordination, and referral follow-ups.
  • Alumni Engagement: Support alumni programming to strengthen ongoing recovery relationships.
  • Partnership Building: Maintain strong ties with community partners, including law enforcement and first responders.
  • Documentation: Accurately log outreach activities, referrals, and outcomes per organizational policy.


Qualifications

  • Required: Peer Support Certification (Ohio)
  • Lived experience in addiction and recovery, with at least 1 year of sustained recovery preferred.
  • Knowledge of community resources, Medicaid processes, and referral systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with outreach/admissions teams.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
