Register/admit patients in the hospital system. Obtain signatures for required documents and scan into electronic record. Verify insurance benefits for admissions and initiate authorization/precertification as required for both admissions and OP registrations. Identify any co-pays or deductibles and initiate up-front collections process. Work Bed-Control room.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensure a patient has a valid Outpatient order or admit reservation.
- Register/admit patient by obtaining accurate demographic and insurance information.
- Have appropriate forms signed and scan into electronic medical record (HPF/HBF).
- Distribute appropriate information to patients: HIPPA privacy information, Admission packet, etc.
- Place ID band on all patients after confirming hospital identifiers: patient name and date of birth.
- Direct patient to appropriate department/nursing unit or arrange transport as required.
- Verify insurance benefits and eligibility on all admissions by checking: Medicare CWF, Medicaid web sites, Recondo, private payer web sites and/or VRU, etc.
- Identify any co-pays, deductibles and out-of-pocket amounts.
- Initiate up -front cash collections for both Inpatient and Outpatient accounts.
- Assist self-paying patients by identifying programs they may qualify for including Medical Assistance, Medicare disability, Crime Victims, etc.
- Refer to hospital financial counselors as needed.
- Initiate precertification for admissions by entering information into the Insurance carrier web site or notifying them via telephone.
- For outpatients, verify precertification has been completed by checking AS400 or Tempus.
- Contact UM precept nurse or insurance company directly when needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Basic general office skills.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Computer experience including data entry, internet use.
- Medical terminology and prior insurance experience.
