Position Summary

Under the direction of the Parks and Rec Supervisor, the Facilities Maintenance Technician performs a wide range of skilled maintenance, repair, and minor construction duties to ensure all City buildings and facilities are properly maintained and operational. Work includes trades such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and general building systems. The role includes maintaining records, scheduling preventive maintenance, and completing service orders using the iWorQ system.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Repair and maintain facility systems and structures (e.g., plumbing, low-voltage electrical, HVAC, door hardware, sensors, fire/life safety equipment).
  • Patch, prep, and paint interior and exterior surfaces.
  • Maintain induction and air handling systems; replace filters; inspect and service mechanical and refrigeration systems.
  • Perform minor roof and window repairs.
  • Assist in grounds maintenance (mowing, trimming, watering) and sprinkler system repair.
  • Support snow removal using hand tools and equipment.
  • Identify maintenance projects requiring vendor or contractor involvement; assist in cost estimation and oversight.
  • Conduct manual labor and miscellaneous facility upkeep as assigned.
  • Ensure accurate recordkeeping and documentation of maintenance tasks.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency in using power and hand tools for facility maintenance.
  • Basic carpentry, wall repair, and fixture installation.
  • Ability to read and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • General computer skills, including email and work order tracking.
  • Working knowledge of one or more building trades.
  • Ability to safely move equipment, furniture, and materials.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Vocational or technical training in maintenance or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in facility maintenance.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid Utah Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record required.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Work Environment

  • Work is primarily performed in City buildings and facilities.
  • Exposure to dust, fumes, odors, hazardous materials, mechanical hazards, and extreme weather.
  • May work on slippery or uneven surfaces and at heights or in confined spaces.
  • May require evening and weekend work, including on-call emergencies.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to walk, sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend, crawl, and climb for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull moderate to heavy objects.
  • Visual and auditory capacity (with or without correction) sufficient to perform essential job functions.

Work Schedule

  • Monday – Friday
  • 20 hours per week (Part-Time)
