About This Position
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Commercial Solar Estimator to join our team. The Commercial Solar Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial and industrial (C&I) solar photovoltaic (PV) projects. This role plays a critical part in securing profitable projects by analyzing drawings, specifications, and site conditions to develop comprehensive proposals.
Key Responsibilities
• Review project plans, specifications, and bid documents for commercial solar PV systems
• Perform quantity takeoffs for modules, inverters, racking, electrical components, BOS materials, and labor
• Develop detailed cost estimates, including materials, labor, subcontractors, equipment, and overhead
• Conduct site assessments to evaluate constructability and logistical challenges
• Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and project management teams to validate system designs and budgets
• Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes
• Analyze project risks and incorporate contingencies into pricing
• Prepare and present proposals to internal stakeholders and sales teams
• Support value engineering efforts to optimize system design and cost efficiency
• Track bid results and maintain historical cost databases
• Stay current with industry trends, equipment pricing, and incentive programs
Required Qualifications
• 3+ years of experience estimating commercial solar or electrical construction projects
• Strong understanding of commercial solar PV systems, including racking, inverters, interconnection, and NEC requirements
• Ability to read and interpret electrical single-line diagrams and construction drawings
• Proficiency in estimating software and spreadsheet tools (e.g., Excel, Bluebeam, CAD, Procore, or similar)
• Strong analytical and mathematical skills
• Excellent communication and organizational abilities
• Attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple bids under tight deadlines
• Collaborative mindset with cross-functional teams
• Commercial awareness and cost-control focus
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
• NABCEP certification (e.g., PV Installation Professional)
• Experience with utility-scale or large C&I rooftop and ground-mount systems
• Knowledge of regional permitting processes and utility interconnection requirements
