Director, Patient Marketing Ophthalmology

This senior commercial marketing role leads the development and execution of patient-focused strategies within a specialized ophthalmology therapeutic area. The position is responsible for shaping how patients and caregivers understand, engage with, and navigate treatment journeys for serious vision-related conditions, with a strong emphasis on Geographic Atrophy. It combines strategic leadership, omni-channel marketing expertise, and deep patient insight to drive meaningful behavior change and improve health outcomes. Operating in a highly regulated pharmaceutical environment, the role requires close collaboration with medical, regulatory, access, and cross-functional brand teams. It plays a critical part in elevating patient education, engagement, and support programs across the full care continuum. This is a highly visible leadership role with significant impact on brand success and patient experience.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead the development and execution of the end-to-end U.S. patient marketing strategy for ophthalmology, with a focus on Geographic Atrophy.
  • Translate patient insights, behavioral drivers, and market dynamics into actionable marketing strategies and segmentation frameworks.
  • Design and oversee integrated omni-channel campaigns across digital, TV, print, social, CRM, and other engagement platforms.
  • Ensure accessibility and inclusivity in all patient-facing content, particularly for individuals with vision impairment.
  • Develop patient education tools, onboarding resources, and adherence programs to support the full patient journey.
  • Partner with medical, access, regulatory, and legal teams to ensure compliant and aligned marketing execution.
  • Collaborate with market research and analytics teams to generate insights, measure performance, and optimize campaign effectiveness.
  • Contribute to brand planning, lifecycle strategies, and product launch readiness with a patient-centric lens.
  • Manage external agencies, budget allocation, and campaign performance tracking.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Life Sciences, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive marketing experience, including 5+ years in leadership roles managing teams.
  • Strong experience in patient marketing within biotech, pharma, or healthcare industries.
  • Proven success in developing and executing multi-channel, insight-driven patient engagement campaigns.
  • Experience working in highly regulated environments with strong medical, legal, and regulatory collaboration.
  • Deep understanding of patient journey design, CRM systems, and digital marketing ecosystems.
  • Strong strategic thinking, storytelling, and ability to translate complex clinical information into patient-friendly messaging.
  • Experience in ophthalmology, rare diseases, or chronic disease areas is highly preferred.
  • Strong leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
