Job Description:
The pharmaceutical industry is at a pivotal moment and The Wall Street Journal is looking for an ambitious, high-impact reporter based in New York City to dominate this story.
Over the next few years, some $300 billion in prescription drug revenue will vanish as blockbuster patents expire. Drugmakers are locked in a high-stakes race, deploying billions on acquisitions and AI-fueled drug discovery as they navigate China's rapid rise as both a partner and rival.
This is a beat where business, science, and global power intersect and where scoops are paramount.
We're looking for a reporter with the drive to break news on fiercely competitive stories. This person must know how to build high-value sources, spot important financial filings and dissect balance sheets. This reporter can identify cultural moments, like the entry of obesity drugs, to tell big stories about pharma's role in reshaping society. The role requires a knack for developing richly reported enterprise on companies and scientists working to solve some of medicine's most elusive diseases--from Alzheimer's to cancer to Lyme disease.
