Children's Grief Program Clinical Coordinator

The New Song Center for Grieving Children, a program of Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix Arizona, provides free grief support for children, teens, young adults and their families through peer support groups, creative expression and education. Established in 1989, it offers a safe space for healing after loss, with activities like art and play, and provides resources for schools and professional, including Spanish-language support.

Position Profile

The Children’s Grief Program Clinical Coordinator plans and evaluates New Song educational and grief support programs through effective utilization of staff and volunteers to meet client needs. Provides clinical oversight and serves as grief and loss clinical resource for New Song, HOV, staff, volunteers and the community.

Responsibilities

  • Provides clinical oversight for New Song programs.
  • Develops and provides quality grief and loss education.
  • Provides comprehensive bereavement assessments. Develops and maintains counseling and support care plan.
  • Promotes New Song and HOV bereavement referrals.
  • Assures client safety.
  • Performs on-call duties.
  • Maintains professional knowledge and enhances professional skills.
  • Adheres to high standards of personal and professional conduct.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in social work.
  • Minimum two years’ recent experience counseling children and adults and facilitating support groups.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license, maintain automobile insurance coverage and have access to an automobile.
  • Demonstrated understanding of various therapeutic modalities including, but not limited to, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
  • Working knowledge of the following grief models/approaches: J. William Worden, Robert Neimeyer.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience providing clinical management for child/family grief and loss program preferred.
