Laborer Grounds Maintenance at Facility Services Management Inc. – JBER, Alaska

Position Summary

Maintains grounds of industrial, commercial, or public property by performing the following duties.

• Cut lawn.
• Trim and edge around walks, flower beds, and walls.
• Prune shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth or remove damaged leaves, branches, or twigs.
• Spray lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer, herbicides, and insecticides.
• Rake and bag or burn leaves.
• Clean grounds and remove litter.
• Shovel snow from walks and driveways.
• Spread salt on public passageways to prevent ice buildup.
• Plant grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
• Water lawn and shrubs.
• Repair fences, gates, walls, and walks.
• Paint fences and outbuildings.
• Clean out drainage ditches and culverts.
• Sharpen tools such as weed cutters, edging tools, and shears.
• Make minor repairs on equipment such as lawn mower, spreader, and snow removal equipment.
• Other duties may be assigned.
• Experience with machinery such as zero turn mowers, small tractors, brushes, bobcats and snowblowers.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Ability to add and subtract three-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurements, volume, and distance.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
