Description:

Summary

A Radiologic Technologist, sometimes referred to as Diagnostic Radiographer, performs a variety of diagnostic imaging procedures, including X-rays, Fluoroscopy, and DEXA scans, to help diagnose and treat patients. They work under the direction of a Radiologist or physician.

Schedule: Must be able to work 48 of 52 weekends of the year.

Essential Functions

Performing Diagnostic Radiology Procedures.

Set up and operate imaging equipment (X-ray, Fluoroscopy, DEXA) to obtain high-quality and diagnostic images.

Perform various X-ray procedures.

Perform routine and complex fluoroscopy procedures, using sterile techniques.

Conduct Bone Densitometry (DEXA) scans to measure bone mineral content and diagnose conditions like osteoporosis.

Adhere to radiation safety protocols (ALARA) to minimize exposure to patients, staff, and self.

Properly shield patients during imaging procedures.

Patient Care:

Prepare patients for procedures, including taking medical history and explaining the process to ease anxiety.

Accurate position patients and equipment for optimal image acquisition.

Ensure patient comfort and safety throughout the examination.

Monitor patients for adverse reactions, especially during procedures involving contrast agents.

Equipment and Image Management:

Operate and maintain imaging equipment, including calibration and troubleshooting.

Evaluate image quality and image analysis to ensure diagnostic value and re-scan as necessary.

Process and manage images, including sending them to the Radiologist for interpretation and archiving results.

Documentation and Communication:

Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including clinical history and exam findings.

Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.

Collaborate with Radiologists to evaluate images and determine the need for further imaging.

Skills:

Strong technical skills in operating imaging equipment (X-ray, Fluoroscopy, DEXA).

Knowledge of radiation safety protocols and practices.

Understanding of human anatomy and physiology.

Attention to detail and accuracy.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical stamina and strength for prolonged standing and potentially assisting patients.

Travel:

Location Flexibility: May be required to travel to other Diagnostic Radiology locations other than assigned homebase based on staffing and operational needs of the department.

Schedule:

Must be able to work 48 of 52 weekends of the year.

Requirements:

Required Education and Experience

High School diploma or GED, Satisfactory completion accredited Radiology Technologist program. Certified by ARRT required. FL Licensed Radiology Technologist. CPR Certification within 90 days of employment.
