We are seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineering Intern to support engineering activities within a DoD-cleared environment. This position is ideal for an upper-level undergraduate student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) who is interested in gaining hands-on experience in a professional engineering setting.
The intern will work alongside experienced engineers on real-world projects involving mechanical design, analysis, and documentation. Must be local to the Tampa, FL area and available to work on-site for Summer 2026.
Requirements:Responsibilities:
- Assist in the design and development of mechanical components and assemblies
- Create and modify 3D models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks
- Support generation and review of technical documentation, including drawings, specifications, and reports
- Participate in design reviews and configuration control activities
- Assist with prototyping, testing, and evaluation of mechanical systems
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams (electrical, systems, manufacturing)
- Support basic analysis activities (e.g., structural, thermal) under guidance
Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: (preferred)
- Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
- Exposure to thermal and structural analysis methods or tools (e.g., FEA)
- Hands-on experience with prototyping, machining, or fabrication
- Experience with additive manufacturing processes and fabrication
- Prior internship, co-op, or relevant project experience
Education:
- Currently pursuing a BSME from an ABET-accredited university
- Upper-level undergraduate (junior or senior) and formally admitted into the ME program
- Completed or currently enrolled in coursework covering: Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Drafting Using SolidWorks, Thermodynamics, Strength of Materials or Heat Transfer
- GPA = 3.0 in Mechanical Engineering coursework
