Crossing Guard at TOWNSHIP OF EDISON – EDISON, New Jersey

Underdirection, guides pedestrians across streets and intersections; halts trafficwhen necessary; performs responsible repetitive duties requiring some judgmentin directing traffic and handling emergencies; constant physical effortdemanded in standing or walking while performing duties under varying weatherconditions; does related duties as required.

Responsibilities:

Hasresponsibility at assigned locations to guide children and other pedestriansacross streets and intersections; when necessary effectively halts traffic toallow for pedestrian safety; assists school children in waiting for andboarding school busses if necessary.

Knowledge:

Someknowledge of traffic and school bus rules and regulations may be required.

Abilities:

Must be available to work before and after school hours.

Ability to read, write andunderstand English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position; abilityto handle traffic conditions promptly, tactfully and impartially; ability tomaintain effective traffic safety rules with school children; ability to talkwith and/or signal people to convey or exchange information.

Mobility, eyesight andhearing must also be in a good condition in order to effectively and safelyperform duties.
