Job Description:
About the Role

The Writer is a high-impact role reporting directly to the Chief of Staff within the Office of the CEO, with a strong connection to the Dow Jones corporate communications team. This is not a traditional corporate communications role; it is a dedicated "voice" position. You will act as a primary ghostwriter for the CEO, responsible for distilling complex business strategies and personal philosophies into a singular, authentic tone.

The ideal candidate possesses the intellectual curiosity and writing chops of a journalist. You must have the presence to sit in the room with the CEO, the intuition to capture their unique cadence, and the discretion to handle the company's most sensitive information and written communications.

You Will:
  • Briefing & Synthesis: Distill complex data and business objectives into clear, conversational briefing materials to prepare the CEO for all internal and external engagements.
  • Internal Connection: Draft high-frequency employee updates, "wins" announcements, and monthly internal newsletters that humanize the CEO and align the workforce with our North Star.
  • Executive Writing: Script high-stakes speeches, keynotes, panel remarks and talking points that resonate with both elite industry audiences and our global employee base.
  • Voice Mastery: Serve as the "keeper of the voice," ensuring every piece of content-from a quick internal note to a LinkedIn post to conference remarks-is indistinguishable from the CEO's own words.
  • Ghostwriting: Author opinion and thought leadership pieces, and "Letters from the CEO" that position our leadership at the forefront of the media and business landscape.
  • Digital Presence: Working closely with the social media experts within the communications team, manage the CEO's professional social persona (e.g., LinkedIn), crafting posts that feel spontaneous, insightful, and authentic to their personal brand.
  • Proactive Social Content Creation: In partnership with the communications team, drive the end-to-end digital roadmap for the CEO, planning content creation before, during and after events and appearances.
  • Strategic Research: Conduct deep-dive research on global trends, current events, and media shifts to ensure the CEO is always entering conversations with a differentiated point of view.

You Have:
  • 5+ years of writing or journalism experience at a high profile publication or platform. We are specifically looking for an exceptional writer with a background in business or public affairs journalism, high profile alumni publications, or executive writing. This is a unique opportunity to write for the publisher of the world's leading business news publications.
  • MS in Journalism or a related field is preferred.
  • Exceptional Mimicry: A proven ability to adopt and enhance the specific tone, vocabulary, and rhythm of another person.
  • Business Acumen: A sophisticated understanding of global markets, current events, and the nuances of the media industry.
  • Extreme Discretion: As a member of the Office of the CEO, you will be privy to pre-public information; exemplary judgment and confidentiality are non-negotiable.
  • Agility: The ability to pivot from a formal speech to a casual social post in minutes, often under tight deadlines.
  • Presence: Comfortable providing and receiving direct feedback from the CEO.
  • Collaboration: Experience and comfort working with editors and multiple stakeholders to craft messaging and writing.
  • Logistics: Based full-time (5 days a week) in the New York City office, with the flexibility to travel alongside the CEO as required.
