Position Description

New River Electrical is seeking a strategic and operationally-focused IT Director to lead our IT Operations, including help desk, end-user computing, and core infrastructure. This role begins as a hands-on leadership position, tasked with stabilizing the existing technical team while identifying competency gaps and capacity issues to effectively scale the department. As a key member of the technology leadership team, you will ensure IT services are strictly aligned with stakeholder needs and business expectations while overseeing the planning and execution of critical IT projects. This position reports to the VP of Information Technology.

Duties/Responsibilities

  1. Team Development & Scaling: Assess existing team competencies to identify gaps; focus on mentoring current staff and developing a hiring roadmap to bring in necessary talent to support NRE’s growth.
  2. IT Project Leadership: Plan, execute, and oversee diverse IT projects, including infrastructure upgrades and system migrations, ensuring they are delivered on time and aligned with business goals.
  3. Stakeholder Alignment: Act as the primary liaison between IT and business units to ensure technology services and support levels meet the evolving needs of the organization.
  4. Procurement & Budget Tracking: Serve as the primary owner of the IT procurement process. Responsible for vendor management and meticulous tracking of expenditures against the IT budget, reporting to the VP of IT.
  5. Infrastructure & Help Desk Oversight: Manage daily operations for servers, networks, cloud platforms, and M365 environments. Oversee the help desk queue and serve as the final escalation point for complex technical issues.
  6. Security & Compliance: Partner with security partners to remediate vulnerabilities and ensure all systems adhere to internal policies and industry standards.
  7. Travel is limited to approximately 10-20%, including travel to jobsites or meetings.

Position Requirements

Qualifications

  1. Experience: B.S. in Information Technology, a related field, or equivalent professional experience. Requires 10+ years of IT experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role demonstrating a track record of motivating and developing technical staff.
  2. Technical Proficiency: Must have a strong "hands-on" background in Windows environments, Active Directory, M365, and networking. Familiarity with automation (PowerShell) and AI tools is preferred.
  3. Management Skills: Proven ability in vendor management, IT service management (ITSM), and solving complex technical and employee-driven challenges.
  4. Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
