JOB SUMMARY

We’re looking for a Data Engineer to help level up our internal AI-powered reporting and analytics platform that powers order, inventory, and customer insights across VeeFriends. This role sits at the intersection of data engineering, product engineering, and applied AI.

You’ll own building and scaling data pipelines, event-driven systems, and reporting infrastructure that feeds our AI tooling and internal dashboards. You’ll work closely with product, commerce, fulfillment, and leadership to turn raw operational data into reliable, real-time insights. Experience using AI coding tools (like Cursor) to move fast and iterate is a big plus.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Pipelines & Architecture

- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines for orders, inventory, customers, fulfillment, and reporting

- Implement event-driven pipelines and streaming workflows to support near real-time reporting

- Own data modeling and transformations in Postgres to support analytics and AI workflows

- Ensure data reliability, accuracy, and performance across pipelines

AI-Enabled Reporting Platform

- Extend and improve our internal AI-powered reporting tool for analytics, forecasting, and operational insights

- Partner with product and ops teams to define metrics, KPIs, and reporting workflows

- Build data foundations that allow AI agents to reason over business data

- Use modern AI dev tooling (Cursor or similar) to accelerate development

Application & API Development

- Build and maintain backend services and APIs that power reporting and internal tools

- Work in our Next.js + Postgres stack to support dashboards and internal admin tooling

- Integrate data from commerce platforms, fulfillment systems, and third-party services

Reliability, Scale & Quality

- Monitor pipelines for failures, latency, and data quality issues

- Improve system performance as data volume grows

- Write tests and validation checks to ensure correctness

- Participate in code reviews and improve engineering practices

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, backend engineering, or analytics engineering

- Strong SQL skills and hands-on experience with Postgres

- Experience designing and building data pipelines and ETL/ELT workflows

- Experience with event-driven systems or streaming pipelines

- Experience building APIs and backend services

- Comfortable with JavaScript / TypeScript (Next.js backend is a plus)

- Experience with operational data (orders, inventory, fulfillment, customer data)

- Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP)

- Strong problem-solving and communication skills

Nice to Have

- Experience using AI dev tools (Cursor, Copilot, Claude, etc.)

- Experience building internal dashboards or analytics tools

- Experience with Shopify or commerce platforms

Physical Requirements

- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

- Must be able to lift 50 lbs at times
