The Respiratory Therapy Department at Moffitt Cancer Center specializes in the treatment of patients with a wide variety of diagnoses that also have related pulmonary diagnoses. Under the department’s scope of practice, we have responsibilities to evaluate and implement patient care modalities in critical care, floor care and urgent care areas. The Respiratory Therapy Department provides ventilator care, bronchodilator and other aerosolized therapy, blood gas collection and analysis and responds to medical emergencies throughout the facility among various other duties. We are a vital part of the healthcare team; in both our 200 plus bed Magnolia Campus as well as our 128 bed McKinley Campus; providing support for disease management, ventilator and airway management and patient education. We administer Respiratory Therapy Services upon the order of providers and within the scope of the policies, procedures and protocols established by the organization.
Position Highlights:
The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is responsible for performing diagnostic and therapeutic clinical procedures as defined in the Respiratory Care Services scope of clinical practice and in accordance with physician orders, policies, and protocols. Additional responsibilities are required, such as maintaining proficiency with all respiratory and blood gas lab modalities and equipment, communicating with other members of the interprofessional care team, and documenting/billing for services in the electronic medical record. The RRT serves as an ambassador for the department as well as the Center by demonstrating exceptional customer service skills.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Will be a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
- Has a minimum of 6 months experience as a Respiratory Therapist, including adult critical care. (May include clinical rotation
experience if new grad.)
Responsibilities:
- Competently performs all respiratory and cardiology procedures.
- Demonstrates appropriate knowledge in the use of all respiratory and cardiology equipment.
- Documents in the hospital computer system all procedures performed per JCAHO requirements and department policies.
Credentials and Qualifications:
- Completion of a Respiratory Care program is required.
- Credentialed by the NBRC as a Registered Respiratory Therapist preferred.
- ACLS required.
- Licensure in the state of Florida in Respiratory therapy is required.
- Current BLS required.
