This role is ideal for a strategic and hands-on data leader responsible for building and scaling a best-in-class analytics and data platform. You will lead the design, architecture, and governance of a secure, compliant, and high-performance data ecosystem while partnering closely with engineering and business teams. Success in this position requires combining technical expertise with strong leadership to mentor a growing team of data engineers and analytics engineers. You will drive enterprise-wide initiatives, ensuring the platform meets both current business needs and future growth objectives. The role involves shaping processes for data accessibility, observability, and privacy, while making high-impact decisions about technology, tools, and vendor partnerships. This is a high-visibility position with significant influence on strategic data initiatives and organizational decision-making.
- Define and evolve the architecture of the enterprise data platform, ensuring scalability, real-time analytics, and compliance with security and privacy standards
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of data engineers and analytics engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning
- Implement and enforce zero-trust data principles, including role-based access, encryption, audit logging, and automated policy enforcement
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including AI, Product Analytics, Finance, and Engineering to translate business objectives into a measurable data roadmap
- Make strategic buy-versus-build decisions for the data stack, evaluate vendors, negotiate contracts, and ensure high ROI for platform initiatives
- Oversee data modeling, metadata layers, dashboards, and internal/external data applications to support business and customer needs
- Contribute to data governance frameworks that ensure data quality, availability, and discoverability
Requirements:
- 12+ years of experience working with data, including 5+ years architecting and operating Snowflake at scale and 2+ years of hands-on software engineering
- Proven expertise in data storage, change-data-capture (CDC) pipelines, database and BI architecture, and modern data orchestration patterns (Airflow/Dagster)
- Track record of building secure, privacy-aware, and compliant data platforms (SOC 2, HIPAA, ISO 27001; FedRAMP experience a plus)
- 4+ years managing and developing data engineers and analytics engineers, comfortable leading a 5-6 person team with plans to scale
- Hands-on proficiency with the modern data stack: Snowflake, dbt, Airflow/Dagster, Fivetran/Stitch, Looker/Mode/Sigma
- Strong communication skills, able to translate complex technical details for executive and cross-functional audiences
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience; advanced degrees or relevant certifications are a plus
- System-oriented mindset with a focus on automation, maintainable code, and sustainable architecture
