Position Summary
Perform a range of electrical engineering assignments as the lead or as a member of a technical support team on complex assignments. Generally, functions in the following activities: engineering design packages for replacement of in-kind electrical equipment, power system engineering, designs to address electrical maintenance needs, electrical construction inspections, electrical troubleshooting, PLC programming and design, and project management.
Responsibilities:
- Ensures compliance with established standards, guides, precedents, methods, and techniques within the discipline.
- Establishes electrical and electronic engineering design criteria and provides guidance and evaluation for facility projects.
- Conducts work for high voltage electrical distribution systems; electrical system load and short-circuit studies; instrumentation and control systems; power and lighting systems, fire detection systems, cathodic protection systems, isolated and emergency power systems, and other unique electrical systems.
- Acts as a lead on complex tasks and is responsible for AutoCAD design drawings, conducting thorough scope of work analyses, and providing detailed design reviews.
- Generates complete design specifications for complex projects.
- Familiar with the National Electrical Code and knows how to apply it when completing design projects, developing maintenance standards
- Conducts site visits, experimental investigations, and analyzes engineering problems, proposes solutions and alternatives, and provides recommendations.
- Knows how to use SKM or other software to determine trip times from protective devices and arc fault current values.
- Coordinates efforts of technical support personnel and electronic technicians.
- Develops and recommends design approaches for new and improved products and or processes.
- Conducts independent technical investigation involving the origination or modification of material, component, or process specifications.
Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a Bachelor’s degree in an electrical technical field; Vocational/Technical electrical school or Associate’s degree required.
- Must have five (5) years of job-related experience in electrical engineering and design.
- Strong analytical skills to diagnose and resolve issues.
- This position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
- Ability to pass a background investigation, including but not limited to a nationwide criminal record search, and other relevant background information deemed necessary by the contract.
- United States citizenship is required to work on a federal contract and will be electronically verified via E-Verify.
Physical Requirements:
Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 20 pounds, constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines.
