Wages

$35.00 per hour

Schedule

This is a temporary, full-time position that will work Mondays – Fridays and will end on August 7, 2026.

Job Summary

PCYC is seeking a Freedom School Site Coordinator to manage the day-to-day operations and serve as the supervisor for one CDF Freedom Schools program site. The CDF Freedom Schools® program is a direct service initiative coordinated nationally by the Children’s Defense Fund in partnership with local community organizations. It is an educational and cultural enrichment program that provides summer options for children and strengthens family and community involvement. The program serves children in kindergarten through 12th grade for six to eight weeks.

Responsibilities:

  • Work in conjunction with the Project Director to recruit children for the program.
  • Maintain the safety of all staff and students at their site.
  • Ensure proper implementation of the CDF Freedom Schools program model by managing daily site activities.
  • Attend all required trainings.
  • Work in conjunction with the Project Director or other designee to coordinate afternoon activities, field trips, family engagement initiatives, and volunteer responsibilities.
  • Conduct daily debrief sessions to maintain team spirit and provide technical support and feedback for Servant Leader Interns.
  • Input child, parent, and staff enrollment data in the program’s reporting system.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Project Director.
  • Ensure that the CDF Freedom Schools Integrated Reading Curriculum is implemented with fidelity.
  • Work in conjunction with Project Director to recruit, hire, train, and manage staff.
  • Serve in a supervisory capacity and as the primary contact for Servant Leader Interns during the June Ella Baker Child Policy Training Institute.
  • Work with Servant Leader Interns to identify and schedule guest readers and lead Harambee.
  • Ensure Servant Leader Interns have the necessary books, materials, and supplies for daily activities.
  • Observe Servant Leader Interns facilitating Integrated Reading Curriculum lessons and provide constructive feedback frequently.

What You Bring

  • You have completed at least one year of college.
  • Experience working as a Servant Leader Intern at a CDF Freedom Schools site is preferred.
  • Experience working in a nonprofit community-based organization is preferred.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Strong appreciation and understanding of individual cultural history and the willingness to be open and respectful of other cultures.
  • Knowledge about youth, families, and community.
  • A high level of competence in computer applications, and the ability to use these resources effectively in accomplishing work (i.e. creating and using charts, tables, and functions in Excel).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to develop relationships with youth and families that foster academic success.
  • Valid driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet PCYC’s driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit (not applicable for new hires living out of state).
