About This Position

Description:

A Plant Operations Mechanic under supervision, installs, operates, repairs, and maintains facility, support equipment and electrical and mechanical systems in accordance with operation manuals, manufacturer’s specifications, standards, codes and accepted departmental procedures. He will also assist in maintaining the interior and exterior of the buildings, landscaping, grounds, parking lots, and furniture. Scheduled workdays and times could vary and will include evening and weekend on-call time.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports and promotes an environment conducive with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the hospital.
  • Completes routine work orders as assigned in set standard timeframes.
  • Performs inspections of facility’s equipment and systems being alert to visual, audio and temperature abnormalities. Monitors and records operating conditions
  • Performs preventative maintenance, including electrical safety checks on facility and support equipment. Documents tasks performed.
  • Removes snow and ice from walkways and applies de-icing compound.
  • Collects trash and linen from assigned areas and deposits in an appropriate place for pick-up or removal.
  • Installs traction and overhead trapeze equipment to beds.
  • Install computer and phone lines.
  • Paints and patches walls
  • Replaces acoustical ceiling tile.
  • Moves furniture, equipment, and records.
  • Maintains an orderly condition of assigned work area.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patients, hospital, and physician related information
  • Is knowledgeable of general hospital and department specific policies and procedures.
  • Other duties may be assigned and are subject to change with or without prior notice.

  • Works in a safe manner, including reporting unsafe equipment or environment.

  • Works steadily and always keeps busy.
  • Maintain knowledge and skills necessary to communicate and interact with patients, visitors, and staff in the following age groups:
  • Infant
  • Pediatric/adolescent
  • Adult
  • Geriatric

Requirements:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Graduation from high school in preferred
  • Must have the ability to follow written and verbal directions.
  • Knowledge of general maintenance duties and industrial trades terminology required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Regulated Medical Waste Training (willing to obtain within 30 days after hire)
  • DOT Training (willing to obtain within 30 days after hire)

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work well with a diverse work team.
  • Ability to work under pressure with time constraints.
  • Ability to concentrate.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Good mental health and emotional maturity
  • Good personal grooming and hygiene

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing and walking
  • Required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel and lie prone.
  • Required to use arms, hands, and fingers for repetitive grasping, pulling, and pushing and feeling.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Any workload exceeding 50 pounds will require assistance.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Potential exposure to chemicals and communicable diseases
  • Could be subject to mechanical hazards.
  • Varies from clean, well-lighted, heated, and air-conditioned areas to noisy, hot, humid, and congested spaces.
  • May be subject to electrical shock or burns from heated equipment.

CORPORATE COMPLIANCE

Receives training and/or attends necessary meetings to meet the criteria as outlined in Hillsboro Health’s Corporate Compliance Plan and Code of Conduct. Understands the responsibilities related to compliance and knows how to contact the Corporate Compliance Officer should there be any instance of question or concern regarding fraud and/or abuse.
