This is a senior institutional leadership role responsible for ensuring full compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the ADA/ADAAA across a multi-silo higher education environment. The position serves as the central authority for student accessibility policies, ensuring consistent application of disability accommodations across academic programs and campuses. Acting as both a compliance leader and subject matter expert, the Director provides strategic oversight of accessibility services, advises academic leadership, and ensures equitable access for all students with disabilities. The role requires close collaboration with academic coordinators, legal counsel, and university leadership to manage risk, resolve complex accommodation cases, and uphold regulatory standards. This is a high-impact position where compliance, student success, and institutional mission converge in a mission-driven academic environment.
- Serve as the institution-wide Section 504 Coordinator for students, ensuring full compliance with ADA/ADAAA and federal accessibility regulations.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve accessibility policies, procedures, and standards across all academic divisions to ensure consistency and legal compliance.
- Oversee accommodation processes including assistive technologies, learning materials adaptation, and accessibility services for students with diverse needs.
- Monitor compliance with disability laws, evaluate institutional practices, and ensure alignment with evolving federal guidance and case law.
- Manage and resolve student accommodation disputes and grievances, escalating complex legal or compliance matters to senior leadership and legal counsel when necessary.
- Provide training and guidance to faculty, staff, and accessibility coordinators on disability law, accommodation procedures, and best practices.
- Maintain accurate student accommodation records and ensure documentation supports institutional compliance requirements.
- Act as the primary liaison between academic units and administrative departments on accessibility-related matters, ensuring cross-functional alignment.
- Advise leadership on regulatory changes, risk areas, and strategic improvements in accessibility services.
- Contribute to university-wide initiatives, committees, and projects related to student success and compliance.
- Bachelor’s degree in humanities, education, business, communication, or related field required; Master’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
- 2–3+ years of experience supporting ADA/504 student populations in a higher education environment.
- Strong working knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, ADA/ADAAA, and related federal guidance and case law.
- Experience working with adult learner populations in academic or student services settings preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong interpersonal and stakeholder management abilities.
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage complex documentation, student records, and compliance data accurately.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make timely decisions and manage sensitive student cases.
- Demonstrated professionalism, confidentiality, and emotional intelligence in handling student accommodations.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a dynamic academic environment.
