POSITION TITLE: Shipping Supervisor

EFFECTIVE DATE: 2026

LOCATION: Canonsburg, PA: STATUS: Exempt

POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Shipping Supervisor oversees all shipping, receiving, and storage operations to ensure efficient and timely delivery of products, including small parts and transformers. This role is responsible for managing staff, enforcing safety protocols, maintaining inventory accuracy, and optimizing productivity in the shipping and warehouse operations. The manager will also play a critical role in facilitating rigging operations and ensuring compliance with company and industry standards. This position also acts as a liaison between production, departments upstream and downstream, and the Administrative Staff.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The incumbent has the responsibility to execute schedules based on management requirements.

Shipping Operations:

  • Facilitate package preparation for shipment of small parts and transformers.
  • Prepare units for shipment via truck, rail, or other appropriate transport methods.
  • Coordinate with logistics partners and trucking companies to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Ensure all outgoing shipments meet customer and company specifications for quality and accuracy.

Staff Management and Training:

  • Supervise, train, and develop shipping and warehouse staff.
  • Assign tasks, monitor employee performance, and enforce productivity standards.
  • Promote and maintain a culture of safety, providing ongoing training on safe material handling, equipment use, and company protocols.
  • Safety and Compliance:
  • Enforce workplace safety procedures and ensure compliance with company policies and OSHA standards.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free warehouse and shipping areas.
  • Conduct regular inspections and safety audits.
  • Process Improvement:
  • Evaluate current shipping and warehouse processes and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements.
  • Implement cost-saving initiatives related to freight, packaging, and warehouse management.
  • Utilize data to optimize workflows, minimize errors, and improve delivery timelines.

Qualifications:

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Ability to operate forklifts, cranes, and other warehouse equipment safely.
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating with staff, vendors, and other departments.
  • Attention to detail to ensure accurate inventory and shipment tracking.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Knowledge of production tools and equipment

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • A bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in shipping, warehousing, or logistics, with at least 2 years in a supervisory/management role.
  • Experience with rigging operations and handling large or sensitive equipment.
  • Proficiency in warehouse management systems (WMS) and shipping software.
  • Knowledge of safety and compliance regulations, including OSHA standards.

PHYSICAL JOB DEMANDS

  • Ability to lift 30 lbs., work in extreme hot and cold weather, must stand for long periods, will be exposed to loud noise levels, and operate hand and power tools for long periods.
  • Work in an environment with dirt, grease, and dust.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking through the factory
  • Periods of sitting at a desk working on computers
  • Visual acuity to inspect products and machinery.
  • Handling of mechanical and electrical tools
  • Handling forklifts and cranes is a plus.

Working Relationships: Shipping Supervisor works closely with internal teams such as operations, inventory, quality control, and safety to ensure seamless coordination of shipments, storage, and rigging activities. Externally, this role interacts with logistics providers, suppliers, and customers to manage shipments, resolve issues, and ensure timely delivery while maintaining strong communication and adherence to quality standards.

Working Conditions

Monday through Friday, and on-call is required. Shift, and weekend may be required.
