Beacon Kalamazoo provides 24/7 emergency care and a Level II Trauma Center. We deliver care for serious life-threatening injuries/illnesses, and your everyday health needs, including labor and delivery. We offer specialty care for heart/vascular disease, lung and sleep disorders, mental health conditions, and women’s health. We offer a wide range of outpatient services, including diagnostic imaging, lab tests, respiratory therapy and rehabilitation therapy services. What You’ll Do As a Certified Pathology Assistant, you’ll provide assistance in the interpretation of histologic specimens and technical advice upon request. You perform complex postmortem examinations and autopsies on received tissue specimens within the histology laboratory and gross dissections of all surgical specimens. Certified Pathology Assistant Job Responsibilities Answer telephones, maintain logs/records Good organizational skills and proficiency with numbers Research information Train employees Use computerized databases Written and verbal communications. Personal computer may be required What You Bring As a Certified Pathology Assistant, you’ll bring knowledge of Hazardous Chemical Waste Management and proper identification of known hazardous material in the work place. You have the knowledge of personal protection measures and the ability to avoid accidents. You have the knowledge of hazardous waste characteristics, hazardous waste volume generation limits, accumulation limits, spill control measures, record keeping, proper handling and container management, labeling, container and storage inspection. Required Qualifications Graduate from approved school for Pathology Assistant 2 years of experience. Certification from ASCP. Physical Demands Speech clarity, utilization of fingers and hands, standing-remaining on one’s feet in an upright position, sitting-remaining in the normal seated position, handling-seizing, holding, grasping. Moderate physical effort (up to 30 pounds); must comply with applicable safety procedures. Working Conditions Possible exposure to infection from disease-bearing specimens; regularly exposed to the risk of blood-borne diseases; must comply with applicable safety procedures. Vision Requirements Far acuity-ability to see clearly at 20 feet or more; near acuity-ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less; depth perception-ability to judge distance and space relationships; color vision-ability to distinguish and identify different colors.
