This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Staff Technical Lead, Backend in the United States.
This role sits at the heart of a high-impact product area responsible for shaping customers’ very first interactions with a large-scale software platform. You will lead backend systems that power upgrades, trials, and product discovery experiences used by millions of users. The environment is fast-moving, cross-functional, and highly visible, requiring strong technical judgment in ambiguous problem spaces. You will act as both an architect and hands-on engineer, balancing deep system design with day-to-day coding and reviews. Your work will directly influence customer perception, revenue growth, and product adoption. This is a role for someone who enjoys simplifying complex systems into scalable, customer-first solutions while guiding a small engineering team.
- Lead the design, development, and evolution of backend systems that support upgrades, trials, and ROI-related customer experiences, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance at scale.
- Act as a player-coach, mentoring a small team of engineers while remaining deeply hands-on in coding, system design, and technical reviews.
- Architect and integrate complex distributed systems involving pricing, packaging, entitlements, and financial workflows in collaboration with cross-functional Fintech and product partners.
- Drive technical direction across ambiguous problem spaces, translating complex requirements into clear, actionable engineering solutions.
- Partner closely with Product, Design, Data, and engineering stakeholders to deliver cohesive, customer-centric experiences.
- Balance short-term delivery needs with long-term platform health, ensuring sustainable architectural decisions and continuous technical improvement.
- Proven experience leading and delivering large-scale, high-impact backend systems in complex, distributed environments.
- Strong ability to operate in ambiguous domains, especially where product, financial, and pricing systems intersect.
- Deep understanding of backend architecture, system design, and scalable service-oriented or distributed systems.
- Hands-on engineering expertise with a consistent track record of high-quality coding, code reviews, and technical execution.
- Ability to mentor engineers, provide technical leadership, and influence decisions beyond a single team.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to align stakeholders across technical and non-technical groups.
- A pragmatic, customer-first mindset with a bias toward solving problems through technology and simplicity.
- Annual cash compensation range: $221,000 – $353,600 USD
- Eligibility for performance-based bonus and on-target commission (for applicable roles)
- Potential equity participation through restricted stock units (RSUs) depending on role eligibility
- Comprehensive benefits and perks package supporting health, well-being, and professional growth
- Flexible work approach with hybrid/remote options depending on role and team needs
- Opportunities for in-person collaboration through onboarding sessions and team events
- Strong emphasis on learning, career development, and internal mobility
