INTRODUCTION:
This position is responsible for advocating and assisting veterans and their family members with a wide array of VA benefits. Assisting with the eligibility process and filing claims, building personal connections with tribal veterans, recognizing and honoring past and present veterans, and providing opportunities for veterans and families to connect. This position serves as the Honor Guard Coordinator, scheduling events for the year and arranging Honor Guard participation and outreach.
DUTIES:
Serve as the Veteran's and Honor/Color Guard Coordinator. Be the main contact for all requests for Tribal events. Funerals and events requested by CTSI and other agencies.
Clean and maintain all equipment- uniforms. flags- bases. etc. Transport equipment and/or veterans to Honor/Color Guard events as needed.
- Process mileage reimbursement and stipends for veterans who attend and participate in scheduled events.
- Propose a department budget and track/monitor all expenditures for the Honor Guard.
- Maintain cuff accounts and achievement records for grants and other funds held by the department.
- Complete grant reports using documented stats and photos from events.
- Complete quarterly and annual CTSI reports for Administration and Tribal Council.
- Work with Enrollment Department to develop and maintain a database of tribal veterans.
- Coordinate with other programs for submission of names for the Veteran's Memorial Wall. Write monthly articles for tribal newsletters about veteran's related events or programs.
- Maintain photographs of Veterans Honor Guard activities and submit photos to tribal newsletter and/or Social Media accounts.
- Develop and coordinate engagement activities/meetings for Veterans.
- Maintain current contact information including address. email and phone number(s) for use by the Tribe, Veterans and public for contact regarding requests events and activities.
- Maintain and build veterans Honor/Color Guard membership including a representative from each area office.
- Assist Veterans with access to services and benefits as requested.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with outside agencies, such as Siletz Valley Schools, Chinook Winds Casino Resort, and others.
- Track inventory for the department and order supplies as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
REOUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or GED and two years of progressively responsible administrative or clerical experience. Must obtain accreditation from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to represent veterans in claims matters within I 8 months of hire. Veteran status preferred. Without accreditation, the position will start at TL 112 and after accreditation the position will advance to TL 114.
Knowledge of:
- A strong understanding of VA and state veteran benefits, laws, regulations and procedures.
- Available community resources and agencies, both Tribal, public and private.
Experience in:
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Budget preparation and tracking preferred.
- Ability to Work a flexible schedule. including evenings and/or weekends.
- Interact and communicate effectively with Veterans and families in a respectful and supportive manner.
- Plan and organize events and outreach to increase veteran participation.
- Be culturally sensitive to ensure that services provided are respectful and appropriate for the diverse backgrounds of Native American Veterans and their dependents.

Must be eligible to drive a GSA vehicle, have a driver's license and maintain automobile insurance.
