About This Position

Under general supervision and according to accepted procedures and standards, performs routine and complex tasks associated with one or more maintenance trades including construction/carpentry, plumbing, electrical, maintenance, and general mechanics to provide the hospital with safe and reliable structures, systems, and equipment consistent with specifications in local, state, and federal code. May specialize in the performance of a particular task but may be required to assist in other capacities due to variations in workload and staffing.

  • Level of knowledge equivalent to that ordinarily acquired through completion of four years of vocational training in high school or one year of intensive vocational training after high school and/or a trade apprentice program
  • Must have a valid Indiana Driver’s License
  • Two to three years of experience in order to:
    • Acquire an adequate knowledge of one or more maintenance skills
    • Develop a basic understanding of mechanical processes, equipment repaid, and the building trades
    • Learn to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and specifications
    • Be able to understand equipment manuals
    • Acquire skills in the use of hand and power tools
    • Become knowledgeable of trade and regulations
  • Acquire a thorough knowledge of departmental policy and procedures
