Summary:
The Overnight Engineer II - Maintenance Technician is a skilled professional specializing in plumbing, HVAC, and electricity, equivalent to the Engineer II role. This position holds the unique responsibility of working alone during the overnight shift, ensuring the security and functionality of the building.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform maintenance and repair tasks for plumbing, kitchen, HVAC, and electrical systems during the overnight shift.
- Conduct routine visual inspections of buildings and grounds, promptly reporting and addressing any identified issues.
- Operate and maintain hotel mechanical systems such as domestic water system, hot water systems, chilled water systems, pool systems.
- Respond to emergency maintenance requests during the overnight hours efficiently.
- Manage inventory of supplies and equipment related to plumbing, HVAC, and electrical maintenance.
- Maintain a set of personal tools required for the Maintenance Technician position.
- Ensure a clean work area and keep tools and equipment in good working order.
- Adhere to company policy and management instructions.
- Perform duties according to Occupational Safety & Health Act (OSHA) standards and company safety policies.
- Seek opportunities for professional development and skill enhancement.
- Adhere to a professional appearance standard and wear the required uniform.
- Work alone during the overnight shift, handling maintenance responsibilities independently.
- May be available to work on an on-call basis.
- Performing routine preventive maintenance on guest rooms and building equipment, repairing, or replacing broken or defective parts and fixtures, performing preventative maintenance services on systems and equipment, assisting with any other maintenance needs at the building as needed
- Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proficiency with common tools and experience in unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks related to plumbing, HVAC, and electricity.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as work orders, safety rules, operating, and maintenance instructions.
- Thorough and attentive to detail.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions during the overnight shift.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- A degree from a four-year university is desired but not mandatory.
- Relevant experience in maintenance combined with degrees from a two-year university is acceptable.
- Previous experience as a hotel engineer is preferred or comparable maintenance experience at an establishment such as an apartment complex or office building.
- Basic computer skills including Internet, e-mail, MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Word
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, memos, and reports.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
REASONING ABILITY:
- Strong ability to apply critical thinking and common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Proficiency in problem-solving involving complex variables in standardized situations.
