Staff Accountant

Staff Accountant | Ashbourne | Louisville, KY | Hybrid
Ashbourne Enterprises is seeking a full-time Staff Accountant to join our team. The Staff Accountant role is key in supporting informed financial decision-making by providing financial analysis, general ledger support, and financial reporting to senior members of the Finance team. This role supports month-end and year-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, and profit and loss (P&L) analysis across multiple operating entities (Haymarket, Ashbourne Events, Ashbourne Farms). The position works closely with cross-functional teams to ensure GAAP-compliant accounting, accurate reporting, and strong internal controls.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Transactions & Reconciliation: Ensure accounting transactions, journal entries, and general ledger activity are recorded appropriately and reconciliations are completed timely , with a thorough understanding of outstanding items and the resolution for each. Support month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Expense Analysis: Create and enhance expense analysis, variance analysis, and reporting for major expense categories to provide insight into operations and assist management in decision-making.
  • Relationship Management: Build relationships with key team members and work collaboratively to improve financial visibility and efficiency in the financial operations of the organization. Work with team members to effectively utilize and integrate multiple systems that support various aspects of day-to-day business operations, ensuring seamless workflow and operational efficiency.
  • Continuous Improvement and Adaptation: Maintain current knowledge of GAAP, accounting standards and financial systems. Adapt workflows and processes to improve efficiency and accuracy in accounting operations over time.
The ideal candidate has the following qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant accounting experience required.
  • Familiarity with accounting principles, regulations, and standards and proven experience in accounting roles, demonstrating proficiency in account reconciliation and financial analysis required.
  • Proficiency in accounting software / ERP systems (Sage Intacct is a plus) and advanced Excel skills (PivotTables, formulas)
  • Experience with multiple operating entities helpful.
  • CPA certification is a plus but not required.

Additional Information, Physical / Other Requirements:
  • This hybrid position based in Louisville, KY typically works standard business hours, and will require flexibility to work additional hours occasionally during month-end close to ensure timely completion of financial tasks and reporting.
  • Ability to adapt to fluctuating workloads and deadlines, including occasional evenings or weekends as needed to meet business requirements.
  • Frequent sitting for long periods, occasional walking, stooping, bending, and reaching.
  • Frequent use of computer and standard office equipment for extended periods of time.
  • Frequent repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and fingers including fine motor skills for tasks such as typing, handwriting, or using a mouse.
  • Occasional lifting and moving office supplies or packages up to 25 pounds
  • Ability for close and distance vision for reading documents or viewing a computer screen for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to communicate verbally, which includes talking and hearing on the phone or in person.
  • Exposure to standard indoor office environment, with occasional exposure to outside elements as needed.
